New guy here from GA. I've been into precision rifle shooting for a couple of years now.
I started by watching TiborasaurusRex's full Sniper 101 series, which I found immensely helpful, and would absolutely recommend to anyone just starting in precision shooting who is an auditory learner.
I started with a 243 Savage with a pencil barrel and a SWFA 10x42, which worked great for a starter gun that helped me learn the fundamentals of LR shooting in a pretty affordable package.
I recently traded in my Savage on a SCAR 20S. I initially put a TA55A ACOG on it, as I briefly became disenfranchised with the concept of LRP shooting, under the guise that a really good BDC-based scope was probably far more effective if you ever did by some wild turn of events end up using a precision rifle in a firefight.
Here's a video of the TA55A on the SCAR out to 714 yards using M80 surplus ammo.
I've recently returned to my senses that LRP shooting is not about practicality, it's like golf for people that find golf crushingly boring. In that they are both fun and challenging technical hobbies in which some walking occurs. So I've got a SWFA 5-20x50MM HD illuminated scope on the way. I have a soft spot for the value proposition of the SWFA scopes and this will be my first high power variable optic.
I had been struggling for a while to find a load that the 20S likes, but recently discovered that FGMM with the 175gn SMK projectile is a perfect match for this rifle. All other match loads I tried had been 1.5-2.5 MOA and I was kinda down on the rifle for a bit. With the 175 SMK it is sub MOA.
As a shooter, my biggest problem is still anticipating recoil, it's something that I've been working on for a while and will probably always be a minor issue of mine.
Anyway, that's my story and I'm glad to be here with y'all.
