Fieldcraft hiding advice

Hello all,

As this seems to be my first post here i guess i will start by saying why i came here. Well in my country real guns and using them are kindoff a taboo. That is why i started playing paintball. (much easier to explain to your loved one that you shoot guys with little balls filled with paint) But that is not the point.
I do this for a little while and we allways play some kind off scenario game where people can set ambushes and try to hide. And it seems that i am the only one who actually enjoys to hide as close to the enemy team as i can and hope that they walk by... Sometimes it works sometimes it fails. But now i wanted to start making a ghillie suit to make it harder to spot me. Now i dont need to move once i am setup so i guess i should only fix my back with jute and vegetation. (yes i am a total newbie in these kind of things.)

But i dont know anything as to what kind of ghillie would work the best? Or even color schemes for the burlap...

If someone can give me clues as to what and how i could become more and more invisible on this terrain. It would be much appreciated.

I think if you will stick to a ghillie with a base layer shade of natural jute you'll do Ok with your area. You can add green and earthy tones to suit the season and natural vegetation as needed. You'll find it is easier to go dark than to add lite when adjusting the ghillie to a particular area.

So i don't have to color the jute?

And perhaps only need to add vegetation to the suit? For seasonig i was thinking of letting it hang out for a few days after i dipped it in a local pool of mud...

Furthermore.

Since i want to make it all by myself

I know everything is learned by trial and error. But do i have to make strips of 1" by 20" and knotting them to the net in the midlle?
And would that be it or do i have to separate the 1" width to smaller sizes?

Looks like a lot of brown, then green, very little dark red for the fall. Maybe a few strips of black/grey to give dark spots...

Cut 1ft by 1ft squares of burlap and shred it up. You get more burlap and its easier to tie on.

COLORS- A base layer of natural burlap with a lighter green and a darker brown.

Just another thought but rather than a sewn on ghillie- If movement is not needed and only ambush, consider a ghillied blanket. Just a net blanket with base jute and throw garnish on when you get your site, then slide underneath it. It will stand a little low crawl but be more flexible for differnt spots as you could carry several in a belt roll.

I have used brown minnow seine in this way to good effect. Then again I have just been buried in leaves beside a log.

The demands and serious nature of a true ghillie do not apply here.

For a stalking suit, I skip the net and just use a drapery neelde to sew strands of jute into my BDU and fray--- just in patches to break up lines.

I like the blanket idea since a full ghillie indeed isn't needed.

Since it is paintball i just get the time to hide myself and hope they pass me by without seeing me. And i dont need to move in it. As soon as the fight begins i however do want to be able to move a little (getting better angels for shooting people is a necessity due to paintballs that don't fly miles )

The thing is i was planning to go and try making a cloak style ghillie... (compare it with those fantasy knight books and such )
Something in the lines of an ordinary ghillie buth which is easy to strap on and off With 2 D-rings on my tac vest.

Your English is fine. Those pictures of your country are beautiful.
Are you familier with "Popski's Private Army"? He was from Belgium and got commissioned in the British Army and fought in North Africa and Italy. Very unconventional. Very good book! His family originaly was Russian I believe. Sorry this has nothing to do with your question.
