Gentlemen. make of this what you will;

I have been to Prague and many other cities in the Central/Eastern European area. The locals are wonderful people and my heart goes out to those who have lost their brothers/sisters/mothers/daughters/father/sons/loved ones to the horrors of history. Hopefully, that same history will never repeat itself there, or anywhere else on this small planet, ever again. My arms are my tools to play a small part in insuring they will not. They are not a guarantee of victory, they are only an assurance of my ability to fight the good fight. Do not ever forget, or turn your back against the struggles of your people, as well as those of others around the world fighting the same tyranny as you.

As a side note, if you have never been to Budapest, by all means, do so. IMHO, it is the most gorgeous, civilized and affordable city in Europe. Take in the culture and thoroughly enjoy yourself. See the Parliament building and the surrounding grounds. Far and away, Budapest is more beautiful than any other city in Europe. Please view and respect the symbolism of the changing of the guard in front of the Hungarian Parliament building flagpole. Much like in the US, It is awe inspiring. And, most importantly, see the "Shoes on the Danube" memorial and take in the meaning/significance;

Shoes on The Danube

All the Best !

I agree many work there balls off and earn all they deserve but I feel fortunate that I don't live in a shithole that brought about the horror those people experienced on the edge of that river.

Government has killed more people probably second only to disease. Take a moment and reflect on those shoes and relate it to the politics and world of today than be thankful we have our Republic. If it ever came time we had to put in place the mechanisms the Founding Fathers gifted us to keep the peace than the real hardwork and sacrifice will begin. Every day should include some work to ensure that never comes to pass.

Interesting similarities with the assassination of Franz Ferdanand. In that case, the grenade failed to kill him and he was later shot.

You might want to actually read the article...if you read.

I get what you are cooking. But your hard work would be not for your benefit had you not been born in a free country (assuming USA in this case). You should be greatful for that.

Why visit: history, Jewish heritage, panorama

The Shoes on the Danube is a memorial to the Budapest Jews who were shot by Arrow Cross militiamen between 1944 and 1945. The victims were lined up and shot into the Danube River. They had to take their shoes off, since shoes were valuable belongings at the time.

The memorial was created by Gyula Pauer, Hungarian sculptor, and his friend Can Togay in 2005. It contains 60 pairs of iron shoes, forming a row along the Danube. Each pair of shoes was modeled after an original 1940's pair. For more of an insight read 'One of Budapest's Most Moving Memorials: Shoes on The Danube'.

Getting to the Shoes on the Danube: Take Streetcar 2 either to Széchenyi István tér or to Kossuth tér. The memorial is between the Parliament Building and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, by the Danube.

Insider Tip: If you want to learn more about Budapest's Jewish heritage sign up for a Secrets of the Jewish Quarter Tour.

Mag;

Thanks for posting this, apologies to all, I was tied up in meetings and on airplanes all day today and didn't have a chance to fix the link.

To me, this is a humanitarian issue much more than it is a race or religion issue. These murderers were of the same nationality and blood as their victims. The indiscriminate and casual murder of children, women and men is just sickening. There is no negotiation or expectation of being granted mercy from people like this, it is not in their DNA. This is precisely why I am grateful to be an American and will always treasure and protect my 2A rights.
