Frank, I assume you were asking me this question? Yes, the 750 grain A Max still hits hard at that distance, so we were able to hear it ring steel in this instance. This is not always the case though, depending on the field conditions. By the time the bullet arrived - just over 3 seconds, and the sound returned to our position, I almost had time to put in a fresh chew ;O)
Frank, If you ever want to come up and shoot with us the door is always open to you!!

Roughly one hour north west of Billing Montana, between Harlowton & Rygate on Hwy 12.

It looks like we have a confirmed shooter or 2 already coming from Idaho next month, maybe you guys could hook up?

Re: hit the gong at a mile today !!

Well, I'm familiar with Billings... spent opening day eve at the hospital there with my idiot hunting partner who tried to kill himself with a chunk of un-or-inadequately chewed steak. I supplement my hunting season most years with Montana tags, and we hunt near and out of Dillon.

Anyway, I would like more information about your program. I have just started increasing range over the last year or so, shooting out to 600, and wanting to do 1,000 this summer. It would be great to hook up with some experienced LR shooters as I back the line up.

Here are some pictures of the facility and comments by some of the shooters that have attended these informal events in the past. Hopefully these links may answer a lot of the initial questions that most new shooters that come to AR have had:

We pretty much work in the area of unknown distance field shooting applications. The field conditions at the ranch offer even the expert marksmen a challenge due to the topography features (canyons & draws) that at times create field conditions that one could not expect, or typically experience on a flat, or bermed known distance range. That is why we believe we offer the marksman real world shooting applications in this type of shooting environment. If you have any further questions you are welcome to email, or PM me and I will do my best to respond in a timely manner.

Yeah, I was trying to find this again too. Link or repost, Aug?

Used to be you could shoot both days, IIRC. Now limited to one of two?

Thanks

Re: hit the gong at a mile today !!

Aug,

Looks like you keep 'er grazed down pretty good. But, I don't see now cows? Maybe a cowpie or two to crawl through for that "extra camouflage" look eh?

I drove past that place many, times back in the mid nineties. Working in Roundup. Before you owned it?

Other than the safety rules that are stringently enforced by everyone, there are none, this is field practical shooting exercize - catch as catch can - However, YOU are required to pack everything to support the rifle platform under your own power - Real world field shooting - if you have to pack it, we soon learn what is actually functional and what is just dead weight.

You can still shoot both days, and you are welcome to pitch a tent under one of the livestock shelters, or park a camper & BBQ with us in the evening. There is no additional charge for camping on site as long as you are self contained.

The cost is $45.00 per day - You MUST register in advance of the event to attend. I am limiting the attendance to a total of 12 shooters this go - I may only have potentially 8 slots left at this time.

Most people would assume I am a rancher, I am not. This piece of ground was purchased specifically for the shooting/training enviornment(s) that exist here, this was my first and foremost consideration in this remote land purchase, after I out grew the distance limitations of the previous 800 acre property.

Everything else was a secondary consideration after the first consideration was met. I allow a local rancher to graze the grass off to reduce the fire danger - it has been my experience that grass is a renewable resource if we get enough rain, also the grass hoppers were bad the last couple years which shortened the grass below what I would have like to see.

Re: hit the gong at a mile today !!

Augustis,

I'm thinking when I first became a member here on the hide I talked to you. Like back in '07, or so. Going to the links you gave it looks like in the second one, the sixth picture down is a picture of the Crazies/Castle Mtns looking West. And, the ninth pic down is of the Snowies looking North.

How close are you to Deadmans Basin?

Re: hit the gong at a mile today !!

Deadmans Basin is 10 miles from the gate. It looks like the June event is just about at capacity, maybe one or two slots left, MAYBE... Some people that have made contact to attend have not finalized confirmation, which leaves two slots still available? If I do not hear back from them by the end of this week I will open these slots up - lack of planning on their part does not constitute an emergency on mine!!

Re: hit the gong at a mile today !!

Nicely done, I am going for my first 1000 yard shot this weekend, maybe someday I will find a place that I can get out to a mile.
