Hodgdon 4831 SC vs 4831

Simple question, is 4831 interchangeable (when loading by weight, not using a thrower) with 4831 SC? All the load data I can find just states 4831, but all the powder on the shelf is 4831SC

First time loading with this powder, just making sure.
 
When 4831 SC was released, Hodgdon specifically stated the load data was exactly the same. They are the same powder with different kernel sizes to allow the SC to flow better through powder measures and to allow a more dense case fill.

I'll see if I can find my old Hodgdon manual that has this info.

but does the shorter cut affect burn rate?
Burn rate is controlled by both the grain size (specifically area) and chemical retardant. The smaller grain size should equate to a faster burn rate.

So the maximum and minimum load data is the same meaning that it is safe to use. It may mean that the powders will behave the same which may or may not be the case. Using deterrent to offset the difference in grain size may have varying effects in different calibers and with the different load densities.

Didn't take issue just commenting on the difference. Now if I were to take issue it would concern the comment "and the exact ballistic copy of H4831". Considering most every batch of a given powder is somewhat different. Marketing. Of course ADI discontinued the H4831/ADI 2213 quite a while ago so its really a moot point.
 
Thanks for the info, folks. My pea-brain still thinks the SC has to burn differently - think big pieces of wood in a campfire vs small ones. So I’ll use the load data (since load data is approximate anyway), but I don’t think I’d use the two interchangeably.
