Newby here. I was told I might be able to find a way to stiffen the bedding block in my Hogue stock. I just bought a Rem 700 SPS Tactical and the forearm seems to 'flex' a little bit and touches the barrel itself when I rest it on something to shoot it or as I'm playing with it. I was told I might be able to put something like Liquid Nails or something like that in it to stiffen the stock up. I'm kind of paraphrasing here since I don't remember the entire conversation!
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Again, I'm new to this game and I'm trying to do the best I can with what I have on hand.

Re: Hogue Stock Help

I got a 3/8 inch threaded rod and hit it with a couple blow torches. Once it got hot I sunk it into the plastic ribs of the foreend of the stock.

It took a couple times to do so but it finally stayed and sunk low enough into the plastic to not interfere. Then I finished up by filling the rest of the area in with fiberglass bondo.

It made the stock much better but did not fix it completely.

Re: Hogue Stock Help

Most people here will tell you scrap the Hogue stock, and I agree. However, I am a hard-headed SOB and must try it my way first. I took 2 pcs of 3/8" aluminum bars and placed them on either side of the center rib, and epoxied them in. I used a dremel to cut the slots. I figured what the hell, if I screw it up, I've lost nothing. After it set up I used a 1" dowel rod with sandpaper to clean up everything and open up the channel. Works OK. I still need to bed the action.

Re: Hogue Stock Help

I'm one of the few that actually likes the hogue stock, it seems to fit me fairly well, but I agree that something has to be done about the flex. The good thing is that even if you do screw it up somehow, there's always someone on here wanting to get rid of theirs for cheap.

Re: Hogue Stock Help

Once again the hobby shop can be your friend!

I build RC planes for a hobby. Carbon rod, I beam, channel, and ribbon are all available and relatively cheap.

Pretty stout stuff. If it'll handle 215+mph and 30G's on my 42% giant scale nitromethane burning pylon racer one would think it'd hold a stock together.

Good luck!
