I haven’t seen a formal thread for this yet and figured I’d start this.

We all know that Holosun announced the IRIS last year at SHOT24, which is their VSCEL-based laser unit. It took a full year to make it happen, but they finally released it and started shipping as of last week. I previously had and used their LS321G until I sold it to fund the IRIS.

I received my unit yesterday from SRS Tactical. It truly lives up to all the hype and I believe it’s going to absolutely shake up the industry based on its size, performance, and cost. It’s comical how good it is for $899 out the door.

I have not seen a product like this that will instantaneously cause most civilians to immediately start buying it and trying to likely sell their older civ powered LAMs. I would imagine even the LE/Mil crowd will have a hard time dismissing it, since it’ll be even cheaper per unit for them.

4MR Ranch released his initial overview and thoughts on it this week. Hop did the same for his SubscribeStar members.

Lastly, Holosun announced their IRIS-1, 2, and 4 today on IG as well. These look like they’ll be replacing their LS117, LS221, and LS420 series LAMs.

The IRIS-4 in particular looks to be a 4 in 1 unit with 1000 lumens, VSCEL Illuminator, and for $999 street. That is pretty dang incredible as well for the money.

I have to say I’m pretty amazed at this. The last product to obliterate all competitors and older models looks like the Garmin Xero Chronograph.

What do you all think?

Buying holosun products is the least of anyone’s worries. I can’t help but laugh when people spout that stuff.

Sorry for the slight derail OP- back on topic -

The IRIS may be a game changer and I hope it is. It will put other companies on notice to up their game, like garmin did with their chrono, and like vortex did with the impact 4000. This will just help better products be brought to us, the consumers.

I get that it’s a sensitive topic (weirdly?) for some, but it seems like people use the CCP argument because they have nothing else to contribute or counter with.

The fact is, American innovation straight up sucks in this industry and/or they simply don’t care about the civilian market. Even if you don’t want to support a company like Holosun, you might very well reap the benefits in the next year once Steiner, 3EIR, Z-Bolt, and even others like Eotech & Surefire are forced to do business in this new market that just got curb stomped

I've read some threads on reddit (yeah, I know) about the power being gated with focus. For instance going down to 8mW which just won't do it for photonic barrier defeat at clip on distances.

(Yeah, I know it depends)

I really hope this serves as a kick in the pants to all the liberty hating, faggot ass companies who refuse to sell FP units to civilians whose taxes fund their fucking IDIQs lol

They hide behind some amorphous FDA regulations, yet, I can order a high power NIR laser no issue from AliExpress or Temu or eBay or specialized electronics companies.

They hide behind ITAR but we can buy any thermals and the scary ITAR/LE/MIL restricted NVDs like PVS31As and GPNVG18s.

Sorry OP, didn't mean to add more derails. Looking forward for some more real world use and seeing where this falls. Id much rather buy one of these than another gray market NGAL or LA5C

No apology needed. I very much agree with your thoughts. I ultimately think the back and forth convo about Chinese made lasers should be had.

It SHOULD frustrate us that American manufacturers refuse to do the things that Holosun so willingly develops and offers for our US citizenry. The difference is I’m more than willing to accept the best product in front of me, especially when the alternative is spending 3-4x as much or the same amount for abysmal performance.

This unit is phenomenal. Holosun could’ve charged us all $1500-$1800 and it would’ve been revolutionary. I’m still shocked they did it

This is the new baseline for civilian LAMS, is what it is not matter who made it. Vscel Illuminator power out to 300 yards pretty easy, 7075 aluminum, good mounting system, great ergos, waterproof, extremely small form factor and under $1k.

The LAM market is the one market in the industry where it doesn't matter who makes it or what the price is, it's just been a market filled with lackluster and extremely overpriced items that aren't even consistently durable(I see Raids, 3EIRs, MAWLS breaking all the time online). This is the kind of shake up this market needed, it's been really really stale for awhile.

I really do hope this pushes the rest of the market to do something worthwhile, the IRIS will be the baseline for awhile. The ACAL looks promising , the upgraded it to a 95mw illuminator, it's still really chunky though. The IRIS performance wise is 75-80% of the MAWL, for 1/4th the price and is considerably smaller and lighter. Kind of a no brainier at this point, regardless of price point.

How strong is the illumunator? The videos I've seen so far online are tough to judge because they weren't side by side comparisons. How would it compare to a liberated Luna?
I don’t have any other FP / VSCEL units on hand, but from YT videos it looks on par with the Laserspeed M6TR (maybe a little less powerful). It’s more powerful than a PEQ15 and less than the MAWL. It looks like it has the cleanest Illuminator out of any option on the market

Watch 4MR Ranch, it's the best you can really get without eyes on. The consensus is its more than enough for realistic PID and engagement needs unless you need it for a long range mounted nvg shooting application. So barring that , for regular ground use case, it's more than sufficient.

I have 2 on the way, I'll report back as I have a 240 yard range and 350 yards on my property.

I'm not sure any of those companies really care.

They get away with it because government money is delicious. It's bullshit as either way you slice the pie, they're still getting civilian dollars. It's easier to fleece the the government than it is to try and garner civilian market share.

Good or .gov money. Like a $160 two way radio costing $600.

Or a $79 digital camera that costs $350.

It’s crazy.
Depends…was the two way radio without encryption and made by a 5 year old by slave labor in a factory that doesn’t value “conditions,” or “fair wages” or pays workers disability in the case of a incident? There’s no osha or EPA to contend with. They can pollute their shit to abomination. They don’t care.

There is a reason China is used to produce things in and for the US market is and it’s no secret why it cheaper.

The issue is the more people we have sending IP to them to copy; the more the CCP rips it off and sends it in for their own use. This isn’t just about GDP. And if you don’t think Holosun and beofang isn’t making a profit and clearing their overhead…I got a bridge to sell you.

The Iris GR3 outdid a Steiner DBAL-I2 9007 (closest price point for comparison, even though it's discontinued) and was a helluva cleaner and crisper illumination than the 9007. This coming from a guy who loves and is "invested" in the 9007, having 4 on rifles and a similar number NIB sitting as backups.

Compared to the D2 the illumination isn't as large, but the D2 is also TWICE THE PRICE and is a lunchbox in size compared to the Iris.

Got some pics/video comparing them on our IG- JRH Enterprises

Wasn't one of the issues that it isn't waterproof to prevent ingress from moisture on the switches?

As a guy who loves using clip ons, I continue to be frustrated with FP laser based IR illuminators. Compared to a FP NGAL, the ability to identify targets (not being lit up by a petri dish) and spot the trace of rounds is not even comparable.

I like the kiji 3, but it blooms too much and I don't find it useable past 300 yards, maybe lucky to get that on a mid-moon night.

So will this unit allow those of us using I2 clip ons to get out to 600+ yds on a mid-moon night and tighten the focus enough to do it?

It truly annoys me that this product came from Holosun and not an American company. But has been said many times, the American companies won't release it. I own a DBAL i2 and 2 MAWLs. To get close to on par performance as a MAWL for damn near a third of the price it really becomes a no brainer. I can obviously afford the MAWL, but why buy another one when I could get THREE of these? I mean honestly, US companies need to take notice that Holosun is kicking their asses in most market segments that they are in.

The biggest issues are American companies CANNOT pay 5.31 an hour to American workers and that wage is on the high side of the PLA. China steals EVERTHING from the US and simply turns around and sells it back to the US consumer. This along with constant IP theft, patent violations etc.

So you really think that means companies can’t build higher quality lasers at $1200 or less? I think almost everyone in this chat would pay a $300 tax understanding that there are labor costs differences

Yep and it's coming. We brought the very 1st Class 1 laser to market with LDI many years ago after relentless work with the FDA as ALL IR lasers were classified 3B restricted no matter what the power level was. Silly law till this day, that America's can be trusted with firearms, machine guns etc. but not a laser.

Add to that you can purchase wild laser that pop balloons all day long from FleaBay, etc with no restrictions...Still scratching my head. Good post, thanks.

I'm not gonna kick too hard about this but...

Will we see this American made laser at this Shot Show? I'm not asking if its going to be ready for consumer purchase but i'd like to plan ahead...

Child slave labor, communist ideals and stolen and or traded IP…
I can go on.
Can you prove they use chinese slave labor.to make holosun? I have a few items of thiers, and like em. But if thats true, ill sell em immediately and NEVER buy another! Again, prove, not "well "local news channel" did a story and..."?

Im serious, i take that seriously, and would never support them, but i hear that tripe often and its ALWAYS followed up with "durr its well known!!!" Or some nonsense.

Not sure why im even bothering replying, as youll just post more boomer bullshit talking points, but i will say thos- dealer price on this unit is in the area of $630, so yes, they are making a profit (shocking. A business making a profit). Not near as much as steiner, wilcox, etc are making though.

lol it’s from China it’s not child labor it’s just labor in their eyes. Just like everything else they make.

No, pretty positive youre thinking of the sms.

While youre at it, you should fix your website so credit card info isnt constantly stolen. Since were talking about theft

Short of bringing you on a plane ride, to the Rua Foireann Inc manufacturing to even see if that is the legit manufacturer, who IS holosun supposedly, there isn’t a shred of “evidence” that someone won’t just shrug away.

That said, no one knows which factories have child slave labor, it’s not something they just advertise on Google, and just general forced labor is simply part of communist China as a totality as if that was much better.

All we that is for sure is that the chance is not 0%, and that it’s probable. Best you can do is go find recent patents, see who the manufacturer is and then check with these assholes to see if they have any information. Keeping in mind they pick and choose when they want to know things.

Fair enough! Thanks :)

How do we fix this? That's disappointing. Power level on the IR illumination drops when tightened.

Not sure why it needs fixed? Its beyond adequate for realistic distances, outside of long range with a clip on.

This was rumored to be due to compliance issues, but it makes no difference to me personally...it'll get me out to 300-350 yards for PID/target acquisition.

Long time ago :ROFLMAO:

Still happening in 2024

Whatever. Cool story bro. I’m sure the only reason L3 sells their full power NGAL at 4000$ is because they pay their wagies on the floor so well

It was 6-7 MONTHS ago the hack and we've not had any customers contact us directl since the China hack was discovered.
The LAST hack, maybe. Its happened multiple times, remember? That said, the post i linked was.. FOUR months ago, so, are you sure? You may be a nice.group of people. You may have great prices on good products (dunno. I dont take chances by ordering from ya) but your website secirity is laughable, and thats an issue.

Screaming "but CHYYYNA" isnt the answer.
