home made auto resetting steel target.

so i build this today. im pretty proud of it. i understand that a low hit might destroy the hinges but well see what happens. the plate will take a 338 lapua at 100 yards so i think it will be ok as far as that goes! what do ya think? a friend of mine is working on drawing up plans for it if anyone would want them.

Or a couple of sandbags side by side.

Just take the bags and a small shovel and fill them on site so you don't have to haul the extra weight.

While you're at it, why not weld an axle in the bottom and a handle on the back (or socket for a removable one). Put some wheels on it that can be held in place with a washer and hitch pin clip. That way you won't have to carry it. Wheel it into position, remove the wheels (and handle if you desire) and shoot away. If you use a quad to haul your target out to the distance you want, make the handle a "trailer tongue".

Just wanted to update this. I am reassigning some if the resetting system to make everything work better and last longer. Also sounds like the guy that was gonna draw up computer plans isn't going to do it anymore so I'm going to hand sketch some stuff and take lots of pics haha

Thanks! Also one more thing. The wiring. One wire is ground. I think it was the brown one. Then one wire will make the. It or run and the other will power the motor to run it into park mode. The park mode needs to always have power. The switch the plate hits needs to put power to the run wire on the motor. I hope this helps!

Nice work. If the bottom of the target extended a couple inches lower would it be able to protect the rest of the mechanism better and do away with the need of the front protector plate?

That is pretty cool. I have a customer that makes lift kits and scraps thousands of 3 and 4 inch circles that are 1/4" think. The steel is mild but I made a couple resetting targets for 22 rifle out of them and a small gearmotor.

My motor does not have the camming function that a wiper motor has but I designed my mechanism to deal with that, and added a small microcontroller to delay when the motor starts and a couple other functions.
