Re: Homeland sec. Purchasing 450 million rounds

I don't mind DHS buying the ammo, I just wish they would practice with it. On the whole, most of those guys can't shoot for poop.

I deal with them, from what I seen they give the ammo to the officers to practice, but instead, for the most part it's stockpiled in their garages.

I've seen the same thing at the department I worked for. I was a range officer, we gave everyone 50 rounds a month. We also made ammo available in the range for any who wanted to practice.

So what did we get for our efforts? Wall lockers full of ammo.

Simple fact, yes there are exceptions but for the most part, cops just don't care. As long and they can pass their yearly, twice yearly or what ever, qualifications, they were happy.

Dont forget the USCG falls under DHS. I know the whole thing about cops and not wanting to shoot, but you need to understand that the people you worked with are not an accurate representation of DHS as a whole. There are several agencies that fall under DHS and some of them are among the most professional in the world. I spent eight years in the Army before getting out and going Coast Guard. Trust me where I am at we make sure we get monthly range time, and training not just qualifications. I am sure this amount of ammunition will be shot within a year.

Yes it is, cops are cops, federal or otherwise. Most, not all, don't care. I shoot a lot of pistol competition, very few cops show up. I've found the ones that do, local cops are normally better then Feds.

FBI is the best example, compaired to local or non feds, the are no better then anyone else. Acutally I believe local cops out shot the feds on the whole.

My son in a DHS Cop, and is one of their firearms instructors. We comapair notes constantly on firearms training. Nothing he brings to the table disputs my opinion.

Though the CG is part of DHS now, I still consider them military. I haven't delt with them since I retired, but it was part of my job firearms training them as well as the navy, NG, ANG an Army. Like other branches of service, some can shoot, some can't. Some care, some don't.

Regardless, Civil LE, Military, Feds and DHS, Coast Guard or who ever, some care, some don't. I think the majority don't.

Same with civilian Conceal Carry people, some care and are quite good, some don't and cant shoot.

Being military, LE, Civ or Feds, doen't automaticly make you a shooter. The ones who care and work at it are the ones that make shooters.

Same with hunters, you'll find some who shoot year around, but the majority you'll only see at the range on "sight in days".

Re: Homeland sec. Purchasing 450 million rounds

When I took my certifications at Quantico, you could always tell the guys who were getting free ammo from the Feds, especially the young guys. They would shoot twice as maany rounds on any given drill. What we need is a paraphrase on an old Jefferson Starship song"

Free money
Free food
Free dope

FREE AMMO.....Yes!!!!!
