Hooray! The JP Chassis is out!

I kinda like the feature set. I'm an AI guy. I just like the way they fit me. I particularly like having an adjustable butt plate (cant and height), but I had to pay extra for that with my AI's.

The JP puts LOP adjustments and butt adjustments on thumbwheels, it appears. That's an improvement over the AI, and something I'd use. I don't hate the idea of AR grips. At a minimum, it gives you the ability to tune grip size to your preferred trigger finger placement.

The one technical area where the AI has the advantage is the ability to move the cheekpiece left and right. It makes is marginally easier to get my eye properly positioned.

I'm in for $1350 or so on an AI AT with the adjustable butt plate. For $250 more, I'm going to give the JP a hard look next time I'm in the market.

In the interest of full disclosure, I'm a JP guy. I have three of their rifles and like them all very much.

Hell, if the MDT ACC is now configured to accept the folding stock, that would be comprable as well with the added beneift of the weight system (to be fair to JP, it doesnt look like this chassis was designed for the competition shooter in mind?) I love me some JP, but I just don't see what hole this is filling.

No, it wouldn't be the same grip as the MPA thumb shelf melds into the aluminum itself for a more natural thumb shelf. The MPA grip is decent alone, but not nearly as nice as it is in addition to the machined in shelf.
Lighter weight is typically not a desirable feature on a competition rifle - along those lines, the MPA has the tuneable weight system.
The MPA has the pushbutton barricade stops, and wedge lock system.
The MPA has the Ryan Castle magwell cut
The MPA has the bagrider and spigot options

Not sure i've ever heard of anyone wanting more adjustment out of the MPA stock, nor not having enough room to run whatever barrel profile they want, but maybe that is an issue. The 2 way folder is kool. The ambidextrous feature is nice for lefties not wanting to wait for production, but in practice, how many people are running both right and left handed actions? Asthetics are obviously subjective - I personally don't like the looks of the MPA much nor am I a fan of tube forend chassis, so both are misses for me (if you asked me, a JAE is the best looking stock/chassis out there).

The MPA options dont mean jack to me because I am, at best, a casual competitor, but there's a reason MPA is far and away the most used chassis among the pros - because it was designed as a competition chassis. Im not saying anything bad about the JP, just simply stating its clear the high level NRL competition type shooter wasn't first in mind when they designed this chassis.

I thought the cut out was removed, to simplify the design, and who uses the wedges with all the bags being used. Throw a game changer upon a barricade and the problem is solved.

For some, it's 12.8" LOP vs 13.5" that can be a factor, the MDT is 14" on the ACC.

As with anything it's personal preference, and to say, more are using an MPA is a bit deceiving, look at the new MDT users. People use who they have access too, MDT has increased access and it's resonating. They signed a ton of former MPA users to their team.

They have exceeded the MPA in a lot of ways, from the weight system to the grip angle, trigger space, to the forend length, there is a lot more going into an MDT today than just a year ago. Shit changes weekly.

Most of these chassis are near identical in a lot of away, the Envy, the MPA, the MDT, it's all personal choice, saying one outperforms the other because a particular individual did well with one is foolish. It's called options, people like options and they like their favorite brands to come out with competing products.

Rifle set up is the key, for me, a 14" LOP is too long if I wanted to make it about me. The MPA while nice, I am not a fan of the design, I think it is a bit plain. The JP has much nicer lines and cuts to me, so it's better on several levels. All the adjustability and none of the downsides.

I don't care which is better for competition because while I shoot them, who cares, if I need an MPA to do well clearly I have failed on several levels.

If it's not your thing, try moving on instead of trying to convince others or yourself it matters.

I can’t say for sure on this chassis, but that was the case for every other fore end tube chassis I’ve seen.

Had a flat bottom ARCA rail and a pretty vertical mag well.

Except for flat sides, what else is there for a “chassis designed for competition?”

Barricade stops and such are gimmicky as bags are more versatile and faster.

Folding stocks are personal preference/convenience that have no practical application.

Sounds like you are putting too much emphasis or features that when put into practical use, aren’t that useful.

MPA did a great thing and came out with a very functional chassis. Cats out of the bag and many will be in that market now.
