Good news for our RDT&E department (while production department is setting up the DMG 5 axis machines for Aspis parts) on this Monday morning.

We have 2 new test barrels on their way to us for testing before we make final decision in offering them or not.

This machining technology has the possibilities of opening up a few different "avenues" that we have in our heads



And this was NOT part of the brainstorming meetings this weekend, lolol....those meetings will come later when further down the tracks, haha.

Yes and No, lol...

Yes as in it "Can" but the technicalities of keeping the transition areas within a designated width gets pretty complex with the cathode length.

No as it the market may not bear the cost of it.

That is part of the testing phase we are heading into.

No point of focusing on that area until the "normal" twist rates and such are proven.

Not ECM but I have a EDM gain twist that’s 1:100 to 1:20 twist on a factory S&W 460xvr (very accurate too). I imagine the tool consumption on EDM makes it undesirable for rifle length barrels.

Hi,

Although similar in some ways and completely different in others....EDM seems like a bad fit for precision barrels based on just the pure tool consumption. Barrels 1 and 5 will be different dimensions based on the tool wear.

I get how EDM in it;s base pricnipal of "arc" removal of material would have a hard time of maintaining tight specs, but how 1 and 5 would be different when your base cutting/tool stock is the same dimensions from start to tool holder?

Because people are lazy, lol.....

Tool wear is one of the most common cause of dimensions changing when dealing with any machining work...

In EDM for example; the electrode continually wears during the operations....just think what happens when that is paired with above listed lazy person...

Then we can get into the heat differences of the 2....one has no heat transfer while other can transfer enough heat to actually cause cracking in the alloy.

Hi,

This piece right here. Instead of making "groove" in the chassis for the bayonet style firing pin piece to ride in; we decided to just lower the entire chassis top and in doing so this bolt rest piece keeps the bolt in perfect middle of receiver location without sagging or scratching the chassis.

It is easily removable if the end user does not want it as it is more along the lines of complete personal preference.

Sorry, is this a bolt-action platform where the center of thrust for recoil is directly in line with the shooter’s shoulder, and it’s still possible to remove the bolt?! I feel like this must be sacrilege.

As long as you are capable of pressing a bolt release and pulling the bolt back at the same time you should be good to go

I'll third that I think a cleared over raw Demo would look good.
A friends car has a fabbed 9in rear end that we clear coated to show off the work rather than hide it under paint.

Interesting...based on the "primer" question (availability issue, I'm guessing), did RUAG advise whether they will be offering the brass (for use by handloaders) - if, and, if so, when? Also, wondering whether that case is set up for the normal 338 LM primers (large rifle magnum) or the larger 6.53mm that some 338 LM ammo is loaded with (RAUG/GECO and UNIS GINEX both "offer" these primers). Any clues? Thanks

Manson should have my reamers and gauges a couple weeks before that.

From my understanding (I have not asked the question direct) the primers are standard large rifle magnum but I will ask Monday.

In regards to brass for hand-loaders; the conversations I have had at this time point to that being an option but they have specifically said that ALL (No matter cartridge) RUAG brass production is pretty maxed out just to keep up with their factory offered ammunition.

As per RUAG Industry Development Director the primer is RUAG large rifle magnum.

So essentially the 375 Swiss P is manufactured completely in-house at their Thun facility. This facility only manufactures for the RUAG label brand and does not interconnect/overlay any other products from any of the companies under their corporate umbrella.

Also, isn't it Ginex in Bosnia that has the 6.53mm primer and not GECO?

Our reamers, gauges and reloading dies are in process right now. Should have by the time I get production model Aspis' finished

I was pretty disappointed with their 300 PRC brass. Very low case capacity, absurdly tight primer pockets (I am literally unable to prime them with a Primal Rights CPS).
