Just got my free box of ammo from Hornady. I'm assuming these 150 gr sp interlocks are
Only for hunting?

Anyone have a good load recipe for this ? It'll be shot out of a 16.5" ar-10 semi auto.

I only have imr 4064 as a powder..

If someone does have experience with
This round, got any ballistic info and effective ranges?

Anyone have the round specs or recipe for the 150 gr sp interlock?

I don't plan on buying more in the future and with the 100 I got need to make the most of it without too much load development . I figure I can help out my local rancher
With his coyote and hog problem with these rounds than use my match rounds which is what I've been doing lately

Thanks givey. I'll try that, working up to that load. you use these rounds for hunting or it's a cheap all purpose bullet for you?

I have 175 gr Smks but I figured use the right bullet for the right application!

Pulled the bullet to find some stick powder. My RCBS scale measured 44.1 gr of this cartridge give or take a couple tents [emoji6]

Powders listed in the manual for the 44 gr range are
H4895 - 44.0 max
IMR 8208 XBR - 44.2 max
Accurate 2460 - 44.5 max
Varget and IMR 4064 both @ 44.9 max

Hope this helps

Well that doe I shot a couple years ago was at 330 (used a range finder) and I was very impressed with the performance. Went through both shoulders. Based on what I saw I'd say you would be safe at least out to 500 on deer sized game or smaller. As far as size of game, it all depends on shot placement [emoji16] the best way to find out is using a ballistic app.

One sec hold that though.…

At 330 went through both shoulders? Sounds like it didn't receive 100% of the energy if it penetrated through.

To verify my thought process, you want the bullet to stop inside the game for 100% energy transfer right?

To get the most energy dump yes you do. But when the shot breaks both front shoulders and hits the heart it's hard to argue. I think the exit was possibly a little off to one side. Wish I had a camera at the time.

Start at 45.5grs on up to 47.

Energy transfer alone means very little. You want to disrupt or destroy vital organs and tissues. Hit the lungs, hit the heart, hit the liver, hit arteries. 2 holes (entry and exit) generally means more blood loss quicker. Blood loss equates to shock, passing out, and dieing quicker.

Also, I used the 150 hornady in my .30-06 (M1 Garand) on a whitetail doe a few years ago and it dropped on the spot, passed out and died in about 20 seconds. Put it in the right spot and it'll do the job.

For what it's worth I use the same bullet in my 30-06 only pushing ~2800fps (a very nice light recoil load) and seem to be quite still accurate at 300-400 yards in steel. Haven't had the fortune of hitting anything with it yet though.

I shoot feral hogs with this on a regular basis. It has been good for DRT out to 250 yards on 75 to 150# hogs. FWIW I have used the 175 SMK's on hogs and killed them out to 425 yards with quick one shot kills.
