Hunting & Fishing Hornady 30cal 225 Kills?

Re: Hornady 30cal 225 Kills?

OK. I guess nobody has used these yet. I'm leaving for 3 1/2 weeks for 2 deer, & an elk on Fri. I hope I can down something with them, & I'll report back.

Re: Hornady 30cal 225 Kills?

I can't post any pics yet.(not at my house) but I shot my doe on Wed with my 300Wm & the 225 HPBT. Deer was only 187 yd out,(was hoping for longer) perfect broadside shot. Bullet went through the ribs without hitting one, & still blew a softball size exit hole. Dammage was contained to the ribs, with no bloodshocked meat in the quarters. I was fairly impressed. I'm heading out in a couple days for elk season so maybe I'll have another report in a week, or so. I can get a pic of the carnage when I get home if anyone wants to see it.

Well, I'm back now with a doe, & a spike bull. Both shot with my 300WM @ the 225gr Hornady HPBT. The doe was only 187yds, & the bullet grazed a rib on entry, which caused it to tumble (I think) blowing a softball size exit.

The bull was hit from 300yd, & the bullet passed through the ribs on entry without touching a bone, & blew a golfball size exit.

Here's a pic of the exit after skinning it out.

I was hoping for some longer shots, but you shoot the shot that presents itself, so there 'ya go. The bullet performed well IMHO. There was blood shock but it was all contained to the ribs with no loss from any of the quarters.
