Last weekend I took 3 boxes of Hornady Black 140gr BTHP through my Rem700 AAC 6.5 Creed to the range. Great accuracy at 100 and 200yrds (my range limit), easily 3/4 MOA and better.

However, one or two rounds out of each box had heavier than normal bolt drop, and each of those round did not group with the rest. I think I had a total of 5 rounds with this issue and 1 more where I couldn't even close the bolt. Pulled the round out of the gun and is had abrasion marks along the bottom of the bullet close to the end of the brass. Sorry neglected to take a photo of it.

Wanted to see if anyone else has had the same issues and has been able to accurately diagnose the cause.
    Thanks

I havent shot much hornady black 6.5 creed but tons of american gunner which is the same and havent had any problems. In fact it is fantastic ammo even if not taking the $.70 per round price tag into account.

I was under the impression Black ammo was optimized for gas guns. Although some are loaded long for magazines, I'd bet the chamber is minimal spec or close to it on your bolt gun. Some measuring would tell.

American gunner. 5 shots at 898 yards on a 12” plate. Yep I missed one. I made a correction after missing the second shot of the group. The stuff shoots. The Hornady Black 6.5 creed is just repackaged for Academy Sports. They can be switched interchangeably.

Really hard to make any guesses at your issue without better info from you. Did you keep the round that wouldn’t chamber? Pictures and measurements would go a long way towards helping you determine the issue. Or helping us to help you.

Right now all we know is that you had some rounds that were difficult to chamber and one that wouldn’t. We have no way to know if it was the ammo or an issue that you have with your rifle, like junk in the chamber, carbon ring or something other.

In fact, any time that you have an issue with ammo, you should retain the problem rounds or cases for analysis later. Here on the internet, without better information, the best you can hope for is a bunch of guesses unless per chance somebody has had the exact same experience and already did the homework to figure out what was going on.

I am just getting into 6.5 gas guns and plan on running the American Gunner 140 gr. Sounds like this is some good stuff plus the cost is nice. Was running .308 168. nice I can get more bang for the $.

I'm just getting into the 6.5 Grendel, and I like the 123 SST Hornady Custom for starters, then handloads using 90gr TNT, 123 SST, and 129 SST over W-748. For now, the initial workups use Starline Brass, CCI-400, and WSR. There's also Hornady 123 SST Custom, and AE 90gr TNT factory loads for comparison.

For way out distances, I also have a 28" 260 Rem bolt rifle. Very backburner, 143 ELD-X loads to test.
