I am currently using the Lee Zip Trim and sometimes I will just use my cordless drill and use the Lee chuck. I am "ok" with that for now I guess but always thinking of ways to speed my prep up. Would upgrading the Hornady Trimmer for $50 (used) be a good decision or should I just keep saving for something a little better? I appreciate your thoughts on the Hornady Trimmer.

Re: Hornady Case Trimmer?

I have no experience with the hornady trimmer but I do with the chargemaster and I think it is well worth the money. Some people complain because it is not fast enough but that doesn't really bother me. Also adding a piece of straw in the end of the tube is a major help to keep the powder from clumping up before it drops out. One lesson I learned the hard way is not make sure that you empty the powder after you are done because some powders can corrode the plastic hopper.

The Hornady works well, especially if you take the time to adjust the micrometer correctly, but it makes changing caliber lengths a pain if you need to do it more than twice/week.
They could have made it more user-friendly.

Re: Hornady Case Trimmer?

I have the Crow Gunworks case trimmer (goes in your drill also). Work well and is way less expensive than the Giraud, which I understand to be the gold standard. I had both the RCBS Chargemaster and the Hornady Autocharge and returned the Hornady. The RCBS unit is far superior IMO. I had constant overcharge with the Hornady.
