I recently bought a used Hornady LNL Classic press off Gunbroker and it is missing the catch tray for spent primers and the priming arm the fits in the ram. Will I miss these or will I find using a hand priming tool more convenient anyway?

Re: Hornady Classic press problem

If you deprime on this press, you'll miss the tray. Some claim they can get the same feel seating on a press or using a hand tool. Guess I'm not that in touch with my sensitive side.

Re: Hornady Classic press problem

I prefer not to de-prime on my press for sanitary purposes; the primers will end up in the floor, and the sediment will accumulate on the ram, detrimental to the longevity of the press. I use the Wilson punches and bases, although Lee offers sets for .223 and .308. Knock 'em into a paper towel, and throw it all in the trash. Sanitary.

Very few people use the press's priming facility.

Thanks Vegas, I googled for hornady press parts but didnt search for the actual tray.

I'm thinking I'll end up with a hand priming tool so I'm not sweating the priming arm too much. I do wish the seller had told me it was missing. Buyer beware I guess.

Re: Hornady Classic press problem

I called Hornady and got the part numbers for the stuff I'm missing.

The tray and complete priming arm will only cost $18.00 so I'll probably get them just so I can decide for myself what I prefer for priming.

I found a friend of the family who has reloaded for 20+ years to help get me going. He acknowledges that he's in the minority, but says he prefers the "feel" of priming on the press.

I was also set on FL sizing every time for my bolt gun, but he prefers collet neck sizing, so I think I will get exposed to some different methods working with him, which I feel is a good thing.

Thanks for the help.
