Hornady Kestrell 5700

I have no experience with the 4dof kestrel but I do have experience with 5700’s and 4dof.

I actually find the 4dof program quite easy to true and if I was in the market for a 5700 I’d actually probably get the Hornandy version.

I have the Hornady Kestrel. I used it during a match last week and found my data was spot on using the preloaded bullet library. As @Steel head said, truing the data is very simple. It's simply a matter of adjusting the Axial Form Factor to line up with your drop at a known distance.

I appreciate the information. Is the unit equally effective at all ranges, say from 100 thru 1,000 yards

It's been spot on for me, but I have limited time with it. It was perfect during my last match, but that was only my 6 Dasher 105 Hybrid load. I'm pretty confident it's good with my Dasher 107 SMK load and my 6.5 Creedmoor 140 ELDM load, but I've only been able to true them out to 856 yards. I can say the 4DOF data lines up VERY closely with my Applied Ballistics Kestrel, as in they're off by a tenth or two of a mil.

Very helpful info - thanks.

So what are the differences between the two besides the obvious - ballistics engine.

Huge

That’s main difference. AB also has their Bluetooth protocol that can connect to more of the newer LRF. Can also get AB in the elite model which can hold more gun profile and has a range card feature.

I love my Kestrel 4DOF so far and 4 profile are good enough for me. Only takes a couple minutes to swap profile with the app. Do wished it could connect to the SIG 3000 BDX Binos.
