Houston area shooters, Bayou Rifles has opened membership back up. We were at capacity, but the board of directors voted to expand the membership. I'm new to the club this year, and I'm really enjoying it. I joined mainly because of the 1000 yard range, but they have matches out there quite a bit as well. When I joined I applied for membership in Sept 2012 and became a member in March 2013. After that, I think they did away with the waiting list (not sure on that though), and in the last newsletter a couple of weeks ago said they would be opening membership back up between now and Aug 1. To become a member you must go to the website and apply online. That function was just turned on this week. One of my buddies applied earlier in the week and has already received his orientation date letter in the mail. The dues work out to be less than $15.00 month, and you can shoot all you want. You also don't have to deal with the idiots at American Shooting Center. We call our own cease fires on the rifle range. It's pretty nice. There has been more than one time when I was the only person on a particular range, be it the 300 or the 100, and a couple of times when I was the only person on the entire property.

It'd be cool to have a bunch of guys from snipershide be members out there.

I registered a few weeks back, But have not received any orientation info. Was your friend notified by mail or email? When I go back to the "apply for membership" page, It said I was already a member..

I signed on in July, just got my notice a couple of days ago. There was an orientation I ran into a couple of weeks back when shooting at Addicks with a friend who is a member. I have no idea if this orientation will be just as big. Considering all the times I go, I never really see a lot of people shooting distance at Juliff which is what I care more about, most seem to shoot at the 25/50yd range. At Addicks, most are shooting gongs in the back and pistol. I prefer shooting at the front range more. Seems adding more people wouldn't hurt and would give a little extra money to up keep/ improvements.

If someone is shooting at 600yds you can't shoot at 1000yds or if someone is shooting at 200yds you can't shoot on the 300yd. Certain distances dictate what part of the range can't or can be used depending on who is shooting what distance at the time you want to. The range has practice sessions the day before a match for 1000yd events so that knocks other parts of the range out during that time. This doesn't effect 100yrds and closer ranges. With the range open sun up to sun down everyday of the week you have an opportunity to get some time in.

Any of you Houston BRI members shooting at Juliff have any issues doing ladder testing for load development on the 1000 yard range? Issue's in regards to finding members who will pull and mark each shot from the pit, issues with the rules or not being allowed to do ladder testing with the target frames, etc...

I kept checking back for months and finally gave up. I went to the site on a whim and registration was open so I signed up and got a password so I hope I will get in on the next orientation. Wish me luck. I retire on the first of January and plan to spend some time shooting. The rest of my time will be spent hunting, fishing, playing golf and what ever else I want to do.
