Middle 'Merica!
So, I wanted to buy a few extra magazines for my new-to-me Accuracy International 1.5 Arctic Warfare .338 Lapua Magnum rifle and ordered three AI .338 "CIP" magazines. They arrived today and I can not get them into the rifle. What should I have ordered? Many thanks for any helpful responses.

Here is a pic of the mag that fits and the .338 CIP that does NOT fit.

What difference does the 300 Norma barrel make? I need mags for .348 Lapua Magnum

The 338 mags were lengthened because the pre cip mags didnt fit the heavy bullets very well. The norma case is much shorter than the lapua case, and is well suited for the pre CIP magazines you'll need to use. As I recommended in your other thread about the 300 norma barrel not selling, you should keep it.

Your 300 Norma barrel will shoot better (the round just seems like a better design than the 338 LM). Your 1.5 chassis can only handle the non-CIP length mags, which means you can't load the 338 to its max (ideal) length. I say you keep the NM barrel and try shooting some ABM 215s through it and compare to your 338 LM. I think you'll see the NM beats the LM. At least that's my understanding from reading here and talking to people that have shot both. Just think of the cost to replace that barrel that you're selling for dirt cheap.

The 300NM will probably (should) outperform the 338LM. You will use the same mags (338 LM standard-length), but you will have to bend the feed lips just a little bit to allow the nose of the round to clear the feed ramp (because there isn't any taper in the case as compared to the LM). If I had to only keep one of the two, it would be the 300NM, hands-down.
