How accurate is your AAC-SD?

For a while I was set on getting one of these but just looking at posts on this forum it seems like they're rather inconsistent. I was hoping some owners of this rifle could vouch for, or against it's accuracy.

So, those who have them and shot groups with them I'd like to know what you're averaging, what stock you use and pics if you've got them.

I dont have pics handy but mine is bedded in a McMillan a5. I wasnt abe to get decent groups with fgmm 168's which was kind of disappointing but I was able to manage .6 with handloaded 178 amax's. I'm in the process of rebarreling mine in 6.5.. still havent narrowed down which 6.5 its going to be.

I put mine in a Manners T3 with mini chassis and get .68 to .79 in. 5 shot groups with factory match 168 and 175 ammo. Yesturday I shot a 400 yard 5 shot group @ 2.72" and could hit 5" plates easy at that range.

Mine in a AICS can put down .5 moa with 175smk handloads, but I'm still learning so I shoot it around .75" - 1".

Using an AAC Blackout brake my handloads, 175 SMK, 44.1gr Varget, CCI Br2 and Win brass, average groups in the 6's & 7's. I tried using an Ops Inc brake and the groups were almost double.

Mine resides in a take-off H-S stock. It also has a tuned old-style 700 trigger. For the scope, its a Mark 4 3.5-10x TMR/M5 knobs. I shoot it suppressed with a Gemtech Sandstorm.

With factory Federal it shoots about .7 MOA consistently, over the 60 rounds I put through it.

With handloads of 175 gr SMK, Lapua brass, CCI BR-2, and Varget, its shooting .4-.6 MOA at 100 yards over 200 rounds thus far. I don't like shooting groups all that much, but have quite a bit with this rifle thus far. At 600, I shot two consecutive ten round groups that measured .2 mil in the scope, though I didn't run downrange and get a tape measure out. That converts out to about .7 MOA give or take.

I am getting about 1.5 MOA with subsonic ammunition at 100 yards.

That surprises me hdbiker, i have used ops inc brakes on several rifles and all were surprisingly accurate for factory tubes. Typically .5-.7" area. I picked up a tikka t3 tac in 308 and it shoots in the .4s with factory and handloads. Had a extra ops laying around so my smith reamed it out and threaded it 18x1 mm for me. Looks better then a trg brake and still shoots in the .4s

At 100yards I get between .25-.40 depending on me.
At 200yards generally between .5-1 depending on me

At 600 yards (f/tr) it shoots about 1/2 moa sometimes better depending on me and the wind.

if i stick my rifle in my cousins sled it will shoot a bit bellow .5 at 100 yards. i shoot from the prone typically and due to consistency i shoot about .6-.7. i can hit a 5 inch steel plate at 600 yards 3 times in a row if i call the wind right. most of the time when my groups are off it is due to my windage call. hopefully will have a load set up before x-mas

Mike, check out RL15. It's works great in the 44-45gr range in a Winchester case and Winchester large rifle primers. In my rifle I set it to a .30 jump (2.310ogive).
With 44.3gr (my load) chronos avg of 2460.

was going to start with that. i definitely plan on researching other powders though.

also i mistyped above. it was supposed to say inconsistency not consistency. when i shoot in the prone i take a shot, look at the shot, put the rifle down then look on my notes, check the wind, drink some water, talk a bit, then get ready for my next shot. sometimes its 5 minutes before i make my next shot so my positioning is off a cunthair lol

yea i can't have a normal conversation with people ever since i got out. the stuff i talked with my buddies about isn't appropriate to civilians and neither is the tars talk lol. that and its hard for me to talk to people who don't like to shoot guns or go get their trucks dirty. especially here in texas, don't own a 4x4 and be scared of mud lol. makes me think they are gay

I could have got a dud, but I do know that the AAC brake worked fine. As a matter of fact, the AAC and Surefire brakes have always performed great, for me anyway.

your AAC didn't like 175s? how far out were you shooting them and were they hand loads? i only ask because i have never heard of the AAC disliking the 175s. i know a lot of people who shoot an AAC with 175-180s out to 600 at my local range.

At 100yards using factory loads my rifle preferred the 168 FGMM.
With 168fgmm it shot around .5ish, with factory 175 FGMM it shot around 1 inch.

Yeah... thats odd that some of the AAC are NOT liking 175's. That is ALL I shoot and it seems to group them within .5 MOA consistently.

I have taken it back to only 250... but its hangs pretty tight.

Mine is pretty much stock with the exception of an Adjustable McMillan A3.

With and without brake. I was testing POI difference. 10 rounds each. Squares are .2 mils. I'm not the best shooter so don't take the fliers as the rifles fault. If it's putting 7-9 rounds into .6 the others are most likely shooter induces.

Mine has averaged about .6" at 100 yards using Varget, Winchester cases, br2 primers and 178 amaxs. I just bought a keg of Varget and the rifle seems to like this lot a little better. I'm seeing groups drop just a little bit so far. The only group I've shot at 200 yards was .96" (five shots), and I was pleased with that.

I've got my rifle in an hs precision stock and swapped out the trigger for a timney. I think it's a great little rifle for what I have in it.

I shot it out to 1000 yards w/ Southwest 175 SW118LR. It really liked TAP, and I hit a coffee can sized target 3 times in a row at 1000 w/ the 168g Hornady TAP ammo.

That was w/ a PWS PRC brake, and in a manners T4 w/ a Mini Chassis and a Timney trigger tuned down to 1lb. Glass was an HDMR in badger rings on a mark 4 steel base that was tq down to spec. It would just throw flyers in 5 shot groups. Sometimes you could pull in a nice 3 shot group, and at 200 it seemed to be right at 1 MOA w/ the TAP it was sub MOA all the way around.

Mine was shooting .5 MOA with 175gr. SMK and RE-15 powder as well as hitting steel at 1000 yards so I think they like the heavy bullets.

I only shoot factory, and w/ the 175s I was not having a lot of luck.

Don't take the blame for those flyers, mine did the SAME thing. I can call a missed shot or two, this happened every group.

I had an AAC built for a buddy of mine. Shot Remington Premier Match 168s and easily under 1 moa. We dropped it into a Boyds prairie hunter stock, opened the barrel channel, installed larger pillars, glass bedded it, did a little trigger work, and installed a custom break. Used Vortex Viper HS 4-16x44 glass. During barrel break-in, I took the last 5 shots and it shot 0.79 moa - 4 shots touching with one outlier. I'll try to post pics later. I would definitely build another one.

The stocks that come on those rifles are garbage. Change stocks and see how it shoots before touching any metal.

I have not yet, but I have a box on my reloading station waiting to be loaded.
I use RE15 and there is almost no data for RE15 and the 208.
Most recipes call for re17 and a few others.

When I get to testing them, I'll post some info.
Maybe next weekend if I can find the time.

I bought a take off 5R stock and put it on mine for $95.00

Have a NightForce scope on her, other than that factory

With SMK 168 it shoots less than .5 , this target is the only one I have pics of. The center big diamond and some of the right side is me walking the scope onto the zero.
The bottom right, and the two left targets are cold barrel single shots at 100 yards.
This is with 58 year old eyes and a average shooter, me.
These rifles shoot. If you havce someone telling you otherwise they are mistaken

I'm working on load development for the 208's now. Looks like my load is going to be some where around 48.5 grains of RL17 using Winchester cases and a coal of 3.050". Its shooting as well as any of the other loads I've worked up for the rifle.

I can tell you that mine did not shoot well IMHO with factory 168 grn SMK's it was @ just about a 1 moa. With factory 175 grn SMK's it was a little better and I am now down to about .5 MOA with handloads. Still a flyer every now and then and it will be off to get trued and a new barrel or it is down the road.

It's not the stock bedding that is the problem. It's the flimsy forend which contacts the barrel and messing with the harmonics. I saw it in a class we taught.

Just a suggestion for you fellows. Do something like I did, search out a inexpensive good stock like the HS Precision 5R take off. There are quite a few around.
I say this because when I sat down with my new rifle and was checking out the Hogue stock original to the rifle the for-end flexed so much and so easily there is now way it is going to give any consistent accuracy.
Plus I got the stainless bottom metal with it and got rid of the nylon crap it came with.
Now with the change I consistently shoot pretty much one ragged hole at 100, which is as far as I am able to shoot here plus ended up with twin sling swivels forward.

Mine actually shot much better than anticipated with the factory stock, but I was extremely careful not to load the front of the rifle stock and apply pressure. I shot it off of carefully setup sandbags (no bipod whatsoever) while I was waiting for my HS Precision stock to come in.

When I first started looking into a better rifle than I had I came across the Budget Precision Build LonewolfUSMC has done (videos of each build segment can be found on here ). I built mine loosely based on what he was doing (different B&C stock, no magazine and a fair bit more coin in the optic) and couldn't be happier. I'm not yet at a point to start throwing 1/2 MOA targets up here (moreso my skill level than the system itself), but I can tell it'll be a hell of a tool to learn on.
