Mtu barrel, Leupold steel mk 4 rings/base while I wait for pri to fix my fuck up with a night vision rail.

Is this too close? I've never been thus close before..

Replace your scope caps with a neoprene scope cover and you'll be fine until you decide to correct the problem (we usually have at least one neoprene cover collecting dust somewhere). I've made the same mistake, and two years later still haven't decided that it is enough of an inconvenience to do something about it. Rifle drives tacks, and is my primary daylight coyote killer. Mine isn't quite as close as yours is though.

You'll definitely be seeing mirage off the barrel sooner 😄. No contact issues and resulting accuracy problems however.

If you wanted to check if it's contacting with barrel whip. put a small dot of non-staining modeling clay under the end of the objective bell. Take a couple shots to test, look at the thickness of the clay, then remove the clay.

That looks awesome. I love a good m24a2 flavor
Its close, Receiver/trigger are off of an Eurooptic M24. Floorplate/follower/bolt/front sight are correct m24 but had to dig to find them. The barrel is a 1:10 Douglas in M24 contour, and the recoil lug is a Badger Ordinance. Its 24ish?

I guess my big questions is now what size rings to get. Its going to be running a night force SHV 4-14 scope with a 56mm objective. SInce I have to get the straight PRI mount, I am guessing high rings would be correct? I have a triad stock pack on it for a cheek rest, but I am assuming its going to be stupidly high right? Seekins X-high rings might be ok, 1.26 vs badger high of 1.124?

How is 300 WSM in that crazy light package?

So much fun that I swapped it out for a .308 barrel! LoL

It actually wasn’t too bad, but yeah, you have to manage the recoil for sure with that setup. Don’t really need another .308, but I did an 18” barrel and it’s super light, and fun to shoot. How it sits right now:

Just under 7# without the can:

…and just under a pound for the muzzle device and the can I’ll almost always use with this rifle:

…and for long hikes/hunts, it’s nice to load up with that polymer-cased True Velocity ammo.

In my gun, this stuff’s actually more accurate than FGM ammo; but not as good as Norma deer loads…my rifle seems to love that Norma ammo even better than my Berger/Lapua brass ammo (typically what I reload for this gun too, all the rest gets fed to my AR10, also chambered in .308).

I’ll drop that 300 WSM into a heavier stock at some point, maybe a foundation, and use a heavier action too.

I took off a barrel a few years back that I shot most of the season with with. I had my scope(G2 4.5-27) about this close(OP's picture) and was a little surprised to see the polished spot on the barrel and scope where it was hitting during whip. Never caused any problems and I shot pretty well that year. That being said, I wouldnt recommend tempting fate by having it that close.

Dang, by my calculations that is 7 lb 12.6 ounces when suppressed. Basically the exact weight of mine if I remove my bipod.

I've got more questions but I will DM you to keep from derailing the thread.
