    Vegas Baby!
.....A bottom metal setup for a bolt rifle using AR-10, FAL or M1A style mags? I just ordered a BM kit and 2 mags at $80 EACH. .308 auto-loader mags like the M1A or FAL mags are like $15.

    How hard would it be?

And btw - if no one thought of this idea before, I get dibs on the intellectual patent!

    Re: How come nobody makes....

been thought of and made, just reliability wasnt very good. Also lots of mods went into making it, since M1A mags are all different that was a problem

    Re: How come nobody makes....

Gas gun mags are doubble feed doubble stack and the DBM sytems for bolt guns are single feed (center feed?) doubble stack.

Issue would be modifying the action and bolt to strip and feed from whichever side the round was on. It can and has been done as deadly already stated but 400.00 in mods buys 5-6 DBM magazines which are also of MUCH higher quality than the M14 and FAL mags.

Accuracy International magazines used by several BM manufacturers are more reliably consistent, although personally, I prefer to use them in an AI...

There's a lot of this sort of reluctance to make the M14/FAL magazine solution work. I don't really blame folks when the AI magazine does the job with so much less imagination or creativity involved.

It just galls me to see a NATO standard magazine getting thrown by the wayside, and mucho bucks being sunk into a proprietary design.

But my own cheapo bastich stubborn streak keeps coming back to the problem. I think there's bound to be a way; I just don't think it falls into the more conventional thinking grooves.

I have some of my own out-of-the-box, and maybe clearly off the wall ideas. One involves an intermediate adapter, and another dispenses with the magazines and treats stripper clips in a new way.

Of course, with my budget and flako time management systems; it may be another millennium before anything genuinely fruitful emerges.

    Do be patient....

I do too. And I like the ergonomics of the AR platform. I've got an idea for making a bolt action upper for AR lowers.

I just don't have the design time, machinery, motivatation, or money to put it into production. I do however have the background to do it. If there's anyone out there that wants to put my idea to use I'll gladly let you have it in trade for a working prototype.

It's been done, it didn't work well, and each mag had to be fitted, wasn’t reliable from one weapon to another, and so on.

If you think it's so easy jump in and give it a go.

I'm in the midst of doing this, the project is on a couple months hiatus as I was relocated for work and my designing buddy is finishing up his qualifing exams for his PhD.

When the first one happens, y'all will get to see it. My dad is in the process of getting his 07 FFL to produce them for us.
