How do you carry your long range rifle?

If Eberlystock or Mystery Ranch made a rifle retention system like Vorn there would be nothing to think about. We’d all have the same pack.

Exo Mtn gear with the weapons holder mounted middle of the pack. I use the 2200 cu in model.
Eberlestock has the design nailed...but their execution on the finer details sucks in my opinion. The shoulder straps and hip belt on the Eberlestock's are pretty low quality compared to some other companies out there. I would be the first to buy another low drag if they upped the quality on their suspension.

I guess it falls into the category of "can versus should." Although tier 1 scopes can absorb some level of abuse, they are still precision devices with relatively thin walls that contain tiny moving parts that need to stay aligned. My mind can't reconcile that with the idea of using it to support the weight of my 20ish pound rifle when there are better options available. I admit to having moved my rifle by my scope occasionally, but it was unplanned and brief. Not like that leather abomination shown above.
Also, carrying a rifle in a way that flags everything in front of me also doesn't feel right either.
One more fore eberlystock for long treks (over over 10 miles) under 10 i usually carry it in my arms or with the sling. The pack is nice for giving your arms a rest.
I've hiked with sherpas. Those are some of the baddest ass mofos I've ever met. Not uncommon to see them hiking up with huge packs outpacing the serious mountaineering guys with all the ultralight gear, up the mountain, in rubber flip flops, in Himalayan ass snow. Absolute animals.
For a long time, I've looked for a sling that I can carry my 26" barreled rifles patrol style. I really like the hands free capability and it just feels easier for my back. The problem I worry about though is the bungee's elasticity allowing the crown to contact the ground. Do you guys think I have a valid concern if I got that Rifles Only carbine model?

I carry my heavy ass Templar I’m that sling, and it sits pretty stable for me. I have not really tried to run with it, but that’s a bridge too far IMO.

This is what I made to use at PRS matches if I have to walk further than just to the next stage. It clips into a flush cup on the fore end of my rifle and as you can see a "D" ring on my pack strap. It's not totally hands free because the butt can swing around but if you just put a hand on it to stop the swinging it's fine.
Used mine for ages this way! The only issue I have is for longer barreled stuff, even short, it puts most of the weight out the top, above your shoulders and it tends to move around as it’s unbalanced with the rest of the pack, as I cannot get the buckles to cinch around most of my stocks. Not really a big deal unless you have to run for something but other than that it’s good to go. Oh, I also carry my rifles in one of these, https://www.tabgear.com/collections/rifle-covers and then I stuff all that in the eberlestock if it’s a long haul. It has added padding/protection on the muzzle end. You can also carry it with just the tab cover itself if it’s not a super long distance.
If I am using this calculator correctly, I believe it tells me I can use my scope to carry my gun, beat small woodland creatures to death, and stir cream in my coffee with quite a margin for error.

If I’ve to do a Sniper Competition usually I carry my rifle with a sling and the handle, I need to change often the position.

If I‘ve to do a long walk with no intermediate stop I prefer to carry the rifle with a back pack, best Solution for me is a Mystery Ranch stuff

I’ve also used a custom set up starting from the Mystery Ranch nice frame, some new stuff from https://www.frogpro.it/ on my request, this Solution is very usefull to customize the nice frame for my need

I just took the dive and invested (buy once, cry once) in Eberlestock Modular Pack System for the specific task of carrying all the necessary gear for either precision rifle classes, long-range precision shooting in back country out to a mile, and/or (eventually) local PRS competitions. I believe it really depends on what application or task you're planning on doing that particular day or longer. In this case I needed to be able to transport my 20+lb rifle set-up along with spotting scope with tripod, bipodExt, ammo, kestrel, shooting mat, snacks, etc. over hilly or rough terrain. I prefer wheeled cases; however not so good over uneven ground. Pictured is the foundation of the modular system (F1 Mainframe) sans backpack and accessories. My rifle is carried in a water-resistant bag threaded through the frame, and there's also a great Andy's leather sling attached for short trips in between stages for example. I still have a long way to go in squaring things away more efficiently, but that's an art form in of itself. Hope this helps in some way.

I've run Eberlestock's and am now trying an Exo pack. So far, the Exo is more comfortable. I'm usually around 55-60 lbs when I carry all the goodies.
With the A4DB Rifle Scabbard (Seal-able Dry Bag) comes a padded Crown shield that not only cushions the muzzle + optic but it spreads the weight of the rifle system over a slightly larger area at the bottom of the scabbard. The scabbard is polyurethane coated ripstop nylon, but I share your concern and would make sure to always use that crown shield.
The OP said long trek, wearing a rucksack, hands free, and quickly accessible ... that nixes some of the offerings here.
Best source of info for this will be hardcore long-distance backcountry hunters; take a look over at Rokslide if you haven't been there before.
As far as packs go, Eberlestock and Kuiu packs are okay for light-med loads, but not so great for heavy. They've also had some notable blow-outs. Eberlestock also got a little litigious when other companies started making in-pack sleeves/scabbards ... better than they did. Meh.
Kifaru International, Stone Glacier, and Mystery Ranch have been the three tier one options for a while (although MR has now moved much of of their production offshore).
I haven't seen the latest verdict on Seek Outside; Exo is generally considered the next rung down. Eberlestock and Kuiu lower still.
For a "quickly accessible" option, there's the Kifaru Gun Bearer as many have mentioned. It's a side-carry option, although the load bearing and fast deployment are good. Multiple pics here: https://kifaru.net/store/accessories/gun-bearers/

And if you want to see an in-pack sleeve option done well, track down a Kifaru Mountain Rambler (not the Mountain Warrior) ... a great heavy-rifle, muzzle-down option. Comes up for sale on Rokslide every so often.

I have used the Kifaru Gun Bearer, which works well. Currently I use a Rifle Craft RS3 sling with QD sockets installed on the left side of the forend and right side of the butt about 1 inch forward of the recoil pad and 1 inch down from the comb. Both of these methods are because I hunt in brown bear country and would rather use a rifle than a pistol if I ever have to defend myself. Lots of people strap it to their pack; which carries well, but is slow to access.
Haha, totally agree. That leather handle may be a structurally sound way to carry a rifle...but it stresses me the f*** out just looking at it

Probably would work on a pencil barreled ultra light, but definitely not on any of my bolt guns.
For hunting, I like the versatility, comfort and lightweight of KUIU for packing gear/meat/rifle with one pack.
I carry a RO Carbine sling inside the pack should I decide to use it.

I bought an Eberlestock pack frame and added the batwings. I also added some nylon strapping at the bottom of the frame to close the gap between the shelf and the vertical part of the frame. I can set the rifle stock on the shelf, and zip the batwings around it. If the batwings have stuff in them, it holds the rifle pretty secure, no movement. Muzzle up works for suppressor, bipod rides right on the gun above the frame, and I can draw the rifle out like its in a scabbard over my shoulder. It works so slick I'm surprised this method isn't more popular. Walked 12 miles on an antelope hunt this way. If you don't need more than a day pack's worth of storage, this is a great system.
Edit to add: My rifle has heavy varmint barrel, S&B scope, and a can on a 22" barrel. Definitely not a sporter-style rifle. I think this pack method would carry just about any heavy long range rifle you wanted to pack.

As a lefty with a RH bolt, I hate how this option jabs me in my ribs, okay for a while but man does that get annoying quick.
