I removed the barrel on my LMT and was using their POS torque wrench that they supplied to re-assemble and sure enough the bolt head schered off. It's my understanding that the bolts are designed to do this to prevent over torquing. That being said, how do I remove the threaded part of the bolt from the upper?

I did the same thing once. I was able to score a line deep enough on the opposite side of the scew that allowed me to back the screw out with a flat head screw driver.

I used my air grinder to score the screw. Ask LMT to supply you with a couple extas when you order a replacement. Good luck.

The end of the bolt is hollowed out. Stick a #1 Phillips screwdriver in the hole, press in and turn left. The end of the bolt should turn out with out much problem.

Worked for me anyway.

Good luck.

Tried to use a number one phillips and does not grab hold in the small whole on the opposite side of the locking bolt.

Re: How do you remove broken LMT 308 barrel bolt

I spoke with LMT this morning and they were great they are sending me new bolts free of charge.

In regards to removing the threaded portion that sheared off from the bolt head, LMT said to take a 1/8th drill bit and drill into the dimpled end of the bolt. The bit will dig into the broke bolt and will reverse it out of the upper reciever. A pretty simple fix.

LMT suggested going forward when using their supplied torque wrench to tighten the bolts using quarter turns. The torque wrench has a very faint audible click when you reach the desired 140inch pounds. So you have to be very careful.

Perhaps I am better off just buying a Snap-On Torque wrench.

Doesn't have to be Snap-On (Mine is), anything but the cheap POS they send with it.

You ought to have a decent torque wrench laying around anyway, on principle.
