How do you shoot with your monopod

When relaxed the butt of the rifle in tight to my shoulder then I adgust the monopod for elevation. Usually a rear bag is easier and more intuitive. The way you describe, sounds like you are muscling the rifle, if so that won't work.

After loading the bipod I make my elevation adjustments and I am trying to pull the rifle back into my shoulder at the approximated weight of the rifle. This is what I have learned from Frank from one of his videos. I was trying to find out what is the best method. Use the monopod for this purpose or release the monopod and reach forward to the magwell or forearm. Using a bag I find that it does not allow me to relax as gripping a bag tenses my hand and shoulders. I definitely try not to muscle the sights on target as this was done at my initial setup.
When using a bag do you use your firing hand to apply the rearward pressure?

Monopods are designed for situations where the shooter will be observing through the scope for long stretches of time. It's not designed nor the best tool to shoot from.

If you can, shoot from a bag.
