I'm running a dd5v4 in 308 and am thinking about keeping the razor hd gen 2 3 to18 on it but only rings I had avalibe to me were the lower ones, haven't shot it yet. What height is everyone else running?

Theoretically nothing.

But when I have my scopes mounted on an AR15, these are the heights I use.

1.25" doesnt always clear front bell/handguard rail with 34mm scope with large objective

1.25" is what I have mounted for a 30mm scope with CTR buttstock now, was shooting it a few days ago; cheekrest height seemed OK with no issues the last 3 range trips

A quick and cheap way to get a cheekrest is kitchen sponges (new and clean) wrapped under an ACE bandage. Control cheekrest heigh using tightness of bandage + # of sponges.
It’s 2022, please for the love of god don’t do this! Just buy any one of the number of stocks that are adjustable. 🙄

Standard AR iron sights are around 1.42" above the rail to center of the aperture. That scope is 2.32" OD at the objective. You might not be able to use caps or covers with 1.25" rings, I would go taller.

...... i run whateve is needed to be comfortable,.......

And for the OP. Get a couple decks of playing cards. Take rings off of scope. Get in the shooting position you will be in the most. Keep placing cards underneath scope until you can hold position comfortably with no neck strain for an extended period of time. Then measure from the top of your rail to the center of the scope. That is your ring/mount height. Buy whatever is closest to what you measured. If it's between sizes, go taller on the mount unless the difference between the shorter mount and measurement you took is insignificant. In that case, go with the shorter mount. Too tall of a mount could lead to cheek weld problems.

What does the scope tube diameter have to do with mount height?
From a consumer perspective, nothing. From a manufacturing perspective, it would take a taller mount to get a 30mm tube up to height than it would a 34mm because the tube diameter is part of the height measurement of the mount.

The front bell isn’t touching the handguard, and is far enough away that the hand guard isn’t going to hit it. If you can get behind the scope and get a good sight picture with a comfortable cheek weld, don’t sweat anything else. You’re done.

I get that part. I was asking why he said he runs different height mounts depending on tube diameter.
