On my Remington 700 SPS TAC in .223, the factory 65 inch pounds seems the best with my B&C Medalist tactical stock. I took mine apart when I first got it to ensure the baseline, torqued and zeroed. Then I tried less at 55 and the groups were definitively not as tight and the POI shifted slightly right and high.

Originally I had my 700 in a Choate stock torqued to 65 in the front, 45 in the back as i had read on another forum, it shot well. I then tightened the rear to 65 in/lb and groupings did tighten up a bit more.
I just installed my second 700 in a HS stock torqued to factory 65 in/lb, haven't shot it yet though.

I have my Remington 700 torqued at 65 in. lbs. I have yet to see how it groups but I have shot it at 600 yards and at three 1,000 yard matches and it shoots great.

any ideas what the sps aac-sd .308 should be torqued too? Just looking for a ballpark figure to start with using the factory Hogue stock.

Do yourself a favor and shit-can that Hogue before you even shoot it. Then depending on budget and personal preference go with something like an HS or B&C to start with and work your way up from there, and torque it in 60-65 inch-lbs and you will be good to go.

I agree with hewlett260. Shed that stock if you have the funds available. When I bought my SPS Tactical, the first thing I did was swap out the stock. Then mounted a base,rings and scope.
Look in the WTS section and pick you up a H-S or B&C for around $250. I torque all of my H-S to 65 in/lbs and they do great.

Due to limited funds, I'll have to use the factory stock for a while. I took my Dremel and relieved the end of the stock so it will no longer touch the barrel I have it torqued to 45"lbs right now. I for sure want to replace the heavy but crisp, trigger I backed the screw out pretty far and just by feel I can tell it is a lot more than three pounds I haven't checked it yet with my scale. I was afraid to back the screw out any farther thinking the spring might come flying out. I am hoping to be able to replace the stock later though I've got some Hornady 168grn.A-Max bullet and several powders to try as soon as I get the dies. Thanks!

These guys are right, the Hogue stock is not all that great. However, go shoot shoot with it. I kept the factory stock on for awhile and it still shot fairly well. And when you get the point where you have decent groups and when funds are available, upgrade to a better stock and you will appreciate how much of a differeence it does make, mainly the consistency with tighter groups.

I contacted B&C about recommended torque for the Medalist tactical stock.
They said 50 inch pounds. So I set mine at 55.
