Some precision/tactical rifles, yes...some, no. It all depends on the kind of hunting I'm doing, where I'm doing it, etc., etc.

What ever I buy, have or build has to be able to do several things, I can't have just one dedicated rifle for hunting or what ever. Maybe someday down the road I'll have that opportunity but for now what is in the safe or case is what's used across the board.

Judging by your sig ^ you have something in the safe that feels at home in the woods and on the bench... Am I right or am I right? UGSW builds them right.

I cant afford ammo so I use mine to paddle canoes, and as the inner pole in my tent, sometimes i ride along with EMT's and use it as a splint, and if I take two of them I build a litter, what else........oh Ive used it for a fire poker in the fireplace, it's been used as decoration on the wall, a spool for my wife's yarn collection. My son learned T-ball using one of my 18 inchers, and its been used to pound pickets for a perimeter at my house.

well, actually I haven't, but I would...

and it's a big caliber bullet (.30 vs 6mm, 7mm etc) and big fucking bullet will take out most game, or any human if need be

I use mine for hunting. Taking a good rifle out hunting is the only way to fly. I have been hunting too many times with what most call deer rifles to be disappointed in its performance. I am not such a long range snob to pass up a give me shot but I do not want to be out there and see the animal I want and no way to get to it but to cross a very open field for hundreds of yards just to get in range. I want to be able to range it adjust the scope and shoot.

I used mine as a hammer on George's bolt last year at ASC.
And occasionally to measure things like doors and windows...
But mostly I use it as a doorstop and paperweight.

I use mine to shoot groundhogs. Other than thatI use it in F-T/R competition, any other type of comp, just punching paper and steel.

I use my GAP 300WM all the time to hunt. Got a deer a few years ago at a whopping 35 yrds. LOL. I was looking for a longer shot, but thats what preseted it self, and I wasnt gonna pass up on the meat.

Absolutely I do. Mine has a No. 7 contour barrel and with an AICS 2.0 stock it's not exactly light, but with a good V-TAC sling it's quite manageable. I use mine for shooting prairie dogs at long range out west (260 Rem).

I bought mine to shoot deer and coyotes from a long ways off. I've dropped a doe in her track at 410, and a bunch of hogs between 350 and 400 or so. Coyotes haven't cooperated with me on range, I haven't gotten a shot at more than 100 yards, yet.

On occasion, yes. Not that my hunting rifles aren't precision rifles but I am sure the OP meant more of the tactical kind.

I don't own tactical rifles so much. Mine are more hunting rifles that double as my precision rifles. No matter what I shoot, I try to make each shot count. I practice with all of my rifles so I know what they, and I, are capable of.

Just curious, how much more performance you get out of the 284 versus 6.5x55? There should be a little advantage over velocity but beyond 200 that should be negated by BC. If anything I would think the 6.5 would do better at long ranges, or at least equal.
What bullet are you loading your Blackout with for hunting? So far I have only tried 125gr TNT's for supersonics and I'm not sure if that's a wise choice for a whitetail.

Rem 700P with 24" bull barrel + IOR 6x24 = too heavy and slow for western Oregon brush-bustin'. But it hunts coyotes along the fence line at night time. Hide is up in the top of the barn with the barn owls.
Just protecting the kids, you know.

Its not really about the caliber, it's the rifles. The 6.5x55 is a Ultra light 6lb rifle with a 2x7 power scope. The .284 is a APA built lazer that puts them into baseball size groups at 700 yards. In the Blackout, I'm using the 150 grain corelock at around 2000fps.
