Hello guys,
I am new here, but have read this forum for long time.
Few months ago I have purchased rifle. Rifle is using 7,62x53R cartridges.
After few shoots rifle scope was broken - now looking for best solution, but the budget is $400.
I know that is very small budget and it will be hard to get good scope.
The question is next - what scope to purchase for this money? With fixed magnification or with variable? I want to shoot up to 600 yards.
Thanks guys!
Good shooting for you all!
P.S. My first choose was Millett 6-25x56, but need more opinions. Also I am opened for offers.

As for what type of scope for shooting out to 600, I would look for a 10x fixed. It will give you the most capable and durable scope for the money.

ETA: Saw your reply and if you're keeping it in the USA or getting an export license then a SWFA SS 10x rear focus.

Oh, I forgot about export license.

Re: How to choose best rifle scope

Just get a used or new scope you can find locally that goes up to at least 6x, has finger adjustable turrets, and was not made in China. It doesn't have to be a giant scope with a fancy reticle.

You can probably find an old hunter selling off a Zeiss or Schmidt and Bender for a good price.

Re: How to choose best rifle scope

Sorry for my stupid, but English is not first language, but how to understand Finger Adjustable Turrets?
In my country you can found much strange optics - vector, vortex, leupold replica`s etc.
Now thinking about Russian sniping optics - Russia is near and maybe it is possible to get something there!

Re: How to choose best rifle scope

It all depends what you can get and who will ship to you etc. The Falcon's fit into your price budget and do the job for the money. I run two of them and not had any issues what so ever, they certainly don't compare to my Nightforce's and Sightron's but they do the job.

Falcon

Another option is the Bushnell 3200 Elite 10x. You won't be able to get the SWFA Super Sniper's as they fall into the restricted category and won't ship out of the US.

Re: How to choose best rifle scope

So if I am understanding you correctly you have no problems importing from the US or you have a good selection in your location. That being the case I would look at at Vortex. Good scopes for a good price and the company will stand behind the product. As for Russian optics I really don't know anything about them. You also mentioned Leupold replicas I would stay away. With the replicas you really don't know what you are going to get.

Re: How to choose best rifle scope

There are a friend of mine of Kalamazoo, MI. At first I can ship it to him, later he will send it to me, but if the license needed, so it is a big problem.

Some scopes you are OK but anything that is classed as 'tactical' or military even to the extent of mil dots becomes an issue. With these kind your best bet is to buy it from your nearest distributer who will be bringing in under licence. By getting your mate to ship it you run the risk of never seeing it again.

Slightly more than your budget but have a look at the Sightron SIII's fixed powers too. Scott at Liberty Optics is the man to go to for these and will advise you about shipping direct.

Finger adjustable turrets allow you to adjust elevation and windage without tools, using your fingers to twist the knobs. Old fashioned and non-tactical scopes require you to remove the turret caps and adjust with a coin or screwdriver.

Re: How to choose best rifle scope

One more question - now using Bushnell 3-9-40 scope. The friend of mine gave it to me after my old was broken. The problem is next - when it cames to magnification 8 or 9 it it impossible to see target - the target is like in shadow. Distance ~ 100meters. I have made all corrections to optic but no results. Is it optics fault?

eye relief?

Re: How to choose best rifle scope

Ok, I was in poligon yesterday.
Magnification 6 and target looks good. First shot was done, reloading and I am ready to look in the scope again - the reticle is in shadow. Have done the shoot, reload the rifle and look in scope again - reticle is crystal clear. Have done 20 rounds and it repeats again and again.
