Don't put the bore away clean (addresses clean bore).

Dry fire a bunch before your take your "cold bore" shot (addresses the "cold bore" by addressing the real problem: "cold shooter").

Re: how to clean gun for first shot accuracy

Are you using a cut rifled barrel?
You could try cleaning the gun at the range after shooting and then fire a few shots . Then just patch out with oil and put away .
Then before shooting patch out dry and fire one fouling shot then group .

Re: how to clean gun for first shot accuracy

Depends on the cartridge, my 308 bore has not been cleaned in 1500 rounds, my 260 needs it every 200, there is a clean cold bore shift, but after a barrel has been fouled any cold POI shift is from being a cold shooter not cold bore, mattj advice on dry firing is spot on, while dry firing the reticle should not move at all, if it does you have a NPA problem and need to readjust your position.

Re: how to clean gun for first shot accuracy

Clean...dirty...in between, does not matter. If your HEAD thinks there will be a shift, there will be a shift. If not, guess what happens...no shift.

Put it in the safe.
