Gunsmithing How to clean muzzle face?

I just removed the Fh'er that my gun came with when I bought it. I bought the gun used about 6 mths ago, and Im changing the FH'er to a brake. I seen some stuff on the muzzle face. I dont know what it is, I dont think its rust. I dont see why it would be as there isn't any in the bore. Can I get aggressive with it, or no.

Little bit of solvent on a patch and try to wipe it off. Don't try any brushes or tools, Just a patch with solvent and your finger.

I tried that and nothing. I think it may be some of the loctite stuff used for the FH'er.. I may have to take it in to get re-crowned.

I bought a set of nylon brushes to clean "delicate" areas like this. It came with different thicknesses of the bristles, some soft and some pretty firm. They work well if it needs to be scrubbed. Otherwise, as stated, some solvent and a patch should get most of it.

Otherwise leave it alone? I kinda fvcked up earlier. I used a brass brush, not hard but tried to flake whatever it was off...

Try to scrape it off but, stay away from the bore.

... or just leave it alone.

Is it affecting the groups? If not, solvent and a rag, otherwise don't mess with it.

I wouldn't know since this is my first time removing the fh'er. Like I said its a a used rifle and I shot it as it stood. Then removal showed the rust, or whatever it is.

Its carbon. Get some Carbon killer from Brownells and soak it (not too much, it rusts). Scurb with nylon brush and carbon killer.

Don't stress...carbon isn't going to hurt much.
