Hello friends,
I've acquired an SWFA SS 10 x 42 scope but it did not come with an instruction manual. I'm researching as much information as I can on how to use this scope properly and any help would be greatly appreciated.

John

  1. you put it on the rifle
  2. you look through it
  3. put the crosshairs on the thing you want to shoot
  4. you shoot it

what the fuck do you need in terms of instructions?

i might hazard to say that if you need instructions on how to use a fixed power scope...maybe you shouldnt be handling firearms.

You missed because you forgot to zero it.

Is that a fact? Well, compared to the post above yours which leads to a 24hourcampfire thread on how to use the SWFA scope I would say that your post above leaves a lot to be desired. So while I initially thought your reply was rude and out of line, it's now abundantly clear that it's your firearms knowledge and competency that is now in question. Move along buddy.

Yup that's a fact.....you are the one asking instructions on a scope....I don't think you have ground to questions anyones knowledge here

I can write you up a 4 page booklet on how to use a spoon too....doesn't mean you need instructions on spooning

Although I'm sure tibasourusrex has a 4 hr video on how to use a scope I can find for you if you are interested

lol

What a weirdo.

To be honest I don't think they come with manuals as there is nothing to know really. Mine didn't come with one that's for sure.
I have the older mil dot version with side focus.

Excellent contribution Navy Gunner. Thank you.

Below are a couple videos on the SWFA scope that I've found of interest so far. Keep them coming folks. If we can make this thread a repository on SWFA information that could potentially help readers in the future it could be a positive thing for both myself and the community. Anyone got a picture they can host of the original owners manual? Information on the history of these scopes? All contributions welcome including general theory and practice.

Someone had posted up this video from TiborasaurusRex earlier. It is in fact very interesting and something I would like to understand better.

If we can make this thread a suppository on SWFA information that could potentially help readers in the future it could be a positive thing for both myself and the community. ”sup·pos·i·to·ry

For fuks sake, could someone make this thread dissolve?

Fixed, my mistake. In the mean while, it looks like you guys definitely dropped some shit in this thread. So the suppository worked lol.
You have a thick skin, so well done.

It is a MOA or MIL substension reticle depending on which model you have, basically a ruler, no need to overthink it too much. @Navy Gunner kindly provided you the reticle drawings.

For practical application of it the Strelok phone app and can give you a better visual understanding of how to use it for holds. I do not recall if the free version includes these reticles but the $12 Pro version does.

Another thread I've found which helps to explain the zeroing process involved with the aftermarket zero stop installation.

Hi everyone! So I am new to long range shooting in general and very new to scopes with any sort of zero stop feature! So I’m trying to clarify my understanding (this is for a Vortex HS-LR 6-24). First you can bore sight your scope in at about 25 yards. Then move out to distance at 100 yards to obtain zero. You make any necessary adjustments and use 3 shot groups until your groups are within 1/2 MOA or so? (Preference) now once you have obtained a satisfactory grouping your turrets may be on (whatever) numbers/measurement. Say the dial number is 8. You then remove the elevation turret cap without rotating and clicking the mechanical part of the turret and place the shims in to hold the spot of the turret. Next you put the cap back on and align the zero number with the notch on the scope. You then are able to dial out and adjust for further distances while being able to return to the zero at 100 yds by simply rotating back to the zero number on the turret. Am I understanding that correctly?
Thanks everyone!

Using the Zero Stop

In some cases, you may acquire a scope on the second hand market with a zero stop already installed. Just remove the aftermarket hardware, zero, re-install and you're ready to rock n' roll.

HI guys,
Any recommendations on removing the 3 screws in the elevation turret? They appear to be in fairly tight and I've tried to move all three as forcefully as I feel comfortable going without risking stripping the screws. Liquid wrench perhaps?

I have this trouble a lot. Make sure that the allen wrench that you are using is the correct size. I know that sounds obvious but there are allen wrenches and then there are ALLEN wrenches.

I got this wrench for all my scopes that take a 2 mm screw. This will work on the SWFA.

ide use a screw driver, make sure to turn it counter clockwise.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the replies. Below is a video from Rex Tibor of RexDefense.com on scope operation for those interested in learning more information from a true expert in the field.

Expert? His scope is MOA, everyone knows MILs are better because they're metric.....

Snipers are lame, drop me a PM and I'll send you some videos on how to be a real Counter-Sniper....I can't post the videos here because just having the videos is technically a war crime....so I have to keep it on the down low.
PM inbound! Wouldn’t I be a better counter sniper if I first learned how to snipe? Just got a sweet az Savage 270, ordered a Caldwell bipod from Amazon.

The reticle is complex.

NavyGunner steered you in the right direction. Ignore the general population idiots who are not here to help. They come with a plastic reticle card new. I like the reticle but it is no way self explanatory.

I talked to Rex just last week, he said he is no longer recommending SWFA. He told me to get rid of everything I have optic wise and buy Quigley Ford, they are changing the game in the scope market.
