How to use the SWFA SS 10 x 42 scope

Hello friends,
I've acquired an SWFA SS 10 x 42 scope but it did not come with an instruction manual. I'm researching as much information as I can on how to use this scope properly and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have gotten a bunch of requests to write up a "how to" for the SWFA Milquad reticle. It is the 6x42mm SS with MQ reticle in the pictures, however the process and use is the same as long as you have a scope who's reticle matches the turret adjustments- mil/mil or MOA/MO...

You missed because you forgot to zero it.

I can write you up a 4 page booklet on how to use a spoon too....doesn't mean you need instructions on spooning

To be honest I don't think they come with manuals as there is nothing to know really. Mine didn't come with one that's for sure.
I have the older mil dot version with side focus.

The ring on the ocular with the varying yardages is your BDC for bullet drop. Focus the eyepiece, zero the optic, then adjust your BDC to the target's range and *impact!*

You have a thick skin, so well done.

It is a MOA or MIL substension reticle depending on which model you have, basically a ruler, no need to overthink it too much. @Navy Gunner kindly provided you the reticle drawings.

For practical application of it the Strelok phone app and can give you a better visual understanding of how to use it for holds. I do not recall if the free version includes these reticles but the $12 Pro version does.

Another thread I've found which helps to explain the zeroing process involved with the aftermarket zero stop installation.

Hi everyone! So I am new to long range shooting in general and very new to scopes with any sort of zero stop feature! So I’m trying to clarify my understanding (this is for a Vortex HS-LR 6-24). First you can bore sight your scope in at about 25 yards. Then move out to distance at 100 yards to obtain zero. You make any necessary adjustments and use 3 shot groups until your groups are within 1/2 MOA or so? (Preference) now once you have obtained a satisfactory grouping your turrets may be on (whatever) numbers/measurement. Say the dial number is 8. You then remove the elevation turret cap without rotating and clicking the mechanical part of the turret and place the shims in to hold the spot of the turret. Next you put the cap back on and align the zero number with the notch on the scope. You then are able to dial out and adjust for further distances while being able to return to the zero at 100 yds by simply rotating back to the zero number on the turret. Am I understanding that correctly?

Using the Zero Stop

In some cases, you may acquire a scope on the second hand market with a zero stop already installed. Just remove the aftermarket hardware, zero, re-install and you're ready to rock n' roll.

Any recommendations on removing the 3 screws in the elevation turret? They appear to be in fairly tight and I've tried to move all three as forcefully as I feel comfortable going without risking stripping the screws. Liquid wrench perhaps?

I have this trouble a lot. Make sure that the allen wrench that you are using is the correct size. I know that sounds obvious but there are allen wrenches and then there are ALLEN wrenches.

I got this wrench for all my scopes that take a 2 mm screw. This will work on the SWFA.

Stick the wrench into the screw. Is it a nice close fit? No, its too loose. Try the next size up. It fits perfectly now? Good. Now unscrew them. Righty tighy, lefty loosey.

ide use a screw driver, make sure to turn it counter clockwise.

NavyGunner steered you in the right direction. Ignore the general population idiots who are not here to help. They come with a plastic reticle card new. I like the reticle but it is no way self explanatory.
