Ok so I just recently purchased a Howa 1500 in .204 ruger for varmint hunting and target shooting out to about 400 yards. If you had this gun and 300 dollArs what would you buy? I already have a bushnell elite 3200 tactical on it. That's the best ill do for awhile on optics.

Re: Howa 1500 in .204

Is this a good setup for a budget rifle? Itll be used for varmints and target shooting out to a maximum of 500 yards.

Howa 1500 .204
-HS Precision Takeoff Stock
-Nikon Prostaff 4-12x40AO
-Harris Bipod
-EGW 20 MOA Base
-Timney Trigger
-AZ Precison Bolt Knob
-Eagle Stock Pack

Re: Howa 1500 in .204

Sounds good to me except the scope and rail. No need for the rail out to 500 other than looks. I have the a5 stock on one of my rifles and I could never get the scope low enough to be comfortable with the tall rail. buy a scope that has incorperated some sort of ballistics software or a decent mildot that way you won't have to dial dope on the fly and won't have a 350 yard zero to shoot the distance you want.

Re: Howa 1500 in .204

I'd honestly recommend the B&C medalist MKII stock over a HS precision. The palm swell is obscene on HS stocks.

EDIT: 300winman, you're right down the street, LOL

Re: Howa 1500 in .204

ok well i will have 150 additional dollars towards this now after yesterdays snow storm so now up to 450 bucks. What would you do? i have a completely stock howa 1500 in .204 no bull barrel either. And i dont see the point in getting reloading gear if im only going too be hunting and doing a little target shooting with this.

Re: Howa 1500 in .204

Well, it looks like you've got 450 dollars in ammunition.

Seriously, tweak the trigger a bit (look up howa trigger adjustment on the googles machine)

If you dont like the stock, change it.

Otherwise, learn to drive the gun well
