Howa HCR Chassis Rifle

I have two, a couple friends have two more. All are extremely accurate and easy to shoot. I use mine for local PRS club matches, and for the Border Wars series. I really like mine and feel they are a great way to get started shooting matches. With my reloads they are easy 1/2-3/4 moa, and I have shot them out to 1150yds. I also used them at a Jim See class, and the rifle did not hold me back at all.

All of ours are HCR models with the Accurate chassis, 3 black and one multicam. I haven’t shot any of the KRG bravo or other models. The multicam one does look sweet, but I went with the black one as I knew it would be all battlescarred from the barricades etc. I really like it, I’m getting 2716fps with my 147 ELD-M and 2760fps 140 ELD-M reloads (24”) and my two are hammers on the steel targets.

I started with an HCR, then traded with a buddy for his Hogue sportier and swapped the barrel for a Criterion prefit, and put it in an MDT ESS. It shoots a little better than the HCR, but I miss the AI mag compatibility. When you shoot out the HCR barrel, consider the Criterion GTG.

I had one for a couple years. It was a solid shooter. The chassis left me wanting more. I did not like the short rail with a long barrel. It wasn’t long enough to achieve a balance point on a bag with a 26” suppressed barrel. After chopping the barrel down to 18.5”, the rail length was perfect and the rifle was much more naturally balanced to the center.

Other than that, I thought it was a great rifle if you’re just wanting a basic setup without custom options. Sold mine because bolt guns are not as fun to me compared to gas guns.
