My thoughts exactly, its all about who does it, and good work is not always cheap work. It shouldn't be horrible expensive ($100-$150), so try and find a quality smith if you can. Ruining a good barrel isnt worth saving $50 IMO.

I'm not saying you need a new barrel, just that it shouldn't cost that much to shorten it, and it should shoot about the same after; but I wouldn't invest a lot of money in the factory barrel.

These rifles usually shoot fine for a factory sporter type rifle.
