How easy is it to install the HS Precsion Bottom metal? Do I need to take it to a gunsmith or can I do it myself?

Its a drop in for standard remington bottom metal. Its better than factory bottom metal, but dont expect badger quality.

It is an investment cast, overpriced unit that requires you to notch the underside of the crossmember to clear and fully seat in the stock. Then, it may not function reliably, forcing you to send it and the stock to HS for magazine lips adjustment. The mags cannot be disassembled for cleaning. I didn't like mine so I sold it.

CLEARLY!!!
I've just done what you are proposing, and no complaints from me. Minor fitting, yes you do have to file the crossmember, but it took me less than 5 min with an ordinary metal-working file. The conversion works well and I have had absolutely no reliability problems.

i run HS on all my rifles never a problem just notch for the bolt release and your done no biggy....

ever here of W-I-D-E mouth pliers....
10 rounders very much can be dis-assembled ....its where i keep the codes for commo with the mother ship.

Per the HS website its stainless, coated black.
the Install on my 700P took about 5 minutes...

The main problem is Magazine availability!!

But the four rounder's can't.
I did HEAR of wide mouth pliers. I just think that for $250 the mags should feed without any issues.

I just put two of these into McM stocks. They are NOT drop ins and I'm no gunsmith. But I was able to fit them in using a dremel tool and some patience. In addition to stock inletting, I had to mill a little bit of metal where the trigger guard rubbed against my CG Jackson trigger. Then I had to mill a little bit off the front of the magazine lip where it rubbed against the action and would not seat. Each assembly took me over an hour to complete...but I'm not practiced at this sort of stuff.
Next, I seated bullets into the magazine and accidently dropped it to the floor. I noticed that the rounds kind of popped out half way...and that bothered me. So, I took some needle-nosed pliers and carefully bent the lips of the magazine down.
After all that, I am very happy with the fit and function of the rifle. It feeds flawlessly now and the rounds stay securely in the magazine when it is dropped.
I originally bought the HS-Precision because I like how the 4-round magazine sits flush against the stock as opposed to the AICS which sticks out and looks wierd.
I do also have the AICS assembly in my tube gun. It IS a better magazine for sure, but the HS Precision works great after the mods I did.
PS. These are center-feed magazines, WAY more reliable that the standard BDL bottom metal.
