Re: HS Precision butt pad removel
I may add, my HS pad popped off real easy, I think 2-3 whacks and I pulled it off by hand, no freezing. At this time, use a very sharp knife to cut off the glue left on your stock, then very lightly block sand to square it up. The stock will sand down super quickly. Use masking tape on the stock just encase you get sloppy and glop, head this warning. Use a high ratio of BBs to epoxy, you do not need much epoxy to hold the BBs. One tube was plenty for 2000 steel BBs if you mix the BBs real good in the epoxy.
I would not over fill the cavity, head my warning. The epoxy will expand quite a bit when curing, way more than I thought. If, the BB epoxy mix bulges, use a Dremel, very very hard to Dremel steel BBs down. Trick I learned, Dremel a few BBs to heat them up and pop them out with a knife. Now Dremel the epoxy, DO NOT Dremel your stock or try to sand it square after filling the cavity. Best advice, do not over fill the cavity, a half inch of space. If you think the space is too big, then use small layers of epoxy to fill the space and ensure it is cured before adding a new layer. Pull the tape, inspect and add new pad.
Gluing the pad is just that but do not use too much epoxy. Squeezed out epoxy will not wipe off that easy, if you use a solvent, it will remove some of your stock paint. Me, I did a quick wipe and left it there, it soon will wear off and its not a art piece.
I have around 2000 steel BBs inside mine minus the ones I had to Dremel out. My SPS Vermit with 26" tube will balance point on the action, cut recoil significantly. Well worth the time and effort but I wish I knew a few things before doing the work.
You do not need a grind to fit pad either. You can find a recoil pad to fit as is.
Good luck.
