A friend was over a couple of days ago and wanted to shoot my 1911. He had shot competitively in the Army with a 1911 and with a revolver as a civilian. He had never shot my gun before. The target was probably about 15 yards away. He was shaking badly due to a shoulder surgery a few years back. The first two shots were with one hand directly in the 10 ring. He said he was hurting to much to continue but I convinced him to try one more. The last shot was with both hands and completed a nice little cluster on the target. It really took me back a notch. I have been practicing on a nearly daily basis and I still can't shoot that good on command. These 3 shots may be the only ones he has fired all year but I will never forget the time he out shot me with my own pistol. I also asked him what he thought of the 10-8 U notch. He said he never noticed it because he wasn't looking at the bottom. I thought that was kind of funny.

Not to detract from your buddies skills, but the 10 ring at 15 yards for a bullseye shooter(competed in the army with 1911 and revolver as civilian I'm assuming bullseye) is a little bit of an easy task, again not saying he don't got mad skills, jus sayin

I know how you feel. In fact I got waaay more humbled.

My brother in law had the monthly Field Target air rifle at his house 3 years ago. His brother in law, Scott, who was visiting at the time, asked if he could shoot the match just for fun. So I offered to let him use my USFT air rifle. I spent a hour with him showing him how to range targets with the side wheel, showed him how to use the dope sheet and explained what was typical for wind holds. While all this was happening my sister in law asked me to shoot her rifle during the match to check her dope for her, which was fine by me.

All the shooters were paired up randomly and off we went to our lanes. Occasionally I'd yell over a 3-4 lanes to Scott and ask if he needed any help. Nope he was Okay and his shooting partner would give me a thumbs up so I was happy for him that all was well.

We were all finished with the match and not wanting him to be embarrassed or anything like that I didn't ask him his score. Well it turns out Scott had bettered 15 other experienced shooters. Of all things he and I were tied for 2cnd place, LOL. What's worse is he won the shootoff against me using my own rifle, LOL.

The next year Scott won a $2200 air rifle at our raffle and has been shooting with the club ever since!

BTW I've won the AZ state title 6 times and he had never shot a rifle match ever before.

The funniest thing to watch is a guy giving shooting instructions to his wife/girlfriend. The woman will be scared and have terrible technique, but will hit everything she aims at. I've seen it a couple times where the chick out shoots the guy badly and says "This isn't hard at all!".

Had it happen to me with a S&W 39-2 that I had just gotten and hadn't even shot yet. I let a shooting acquaintance of mine take the first couple rounds on it since he was so keen on S&Ws in general and this one in particular. Damned if he didn't put two rounds in the X at 25 yards.
