Hunting 6.8 spc barrel or upper?

I currently have a 6.8 build with a Stag upper. I bought it about 8 years ago. I’ve killed a few deer with it, but I would like to improve its accuracy. It’s a light weight build with a polymer lower. Most uppers I see are almost bull barrels. Should I just buy a Wilson combat recon barrel or is there a place to find a hunting style upper that will shoot? My current setup is about 1.5 moa shooter. Which is fine for hunting at 6.8 distances, but it’s a turd in comparison to all my other rifles. I do reload and to took a bunch of testing to get it to 1.5”. As a side note, it wears a vortex razor LH 1.5-8, with their version of the German #4. Probably the best match for close range hunting rifle.

I’ve got a 6.8 built on a CMT upper that I’m happy with. They ran a matched set sale that was too good to resist. One of these days I might upgrade from the bargain barrel, but the rifle runs absolutely perfectly and I don’t wanna mess with it.

If I recall rightly, it’s a 16” middleweight barrel from Bison. The whole thing with a Gen 1 Trijicon Accupoint on it goes right about 9 lbs.

I'm not saying that your lightweight build and polymer lower are killing you, but they aren't exactly two measures people put into an accuracy build.

ARP as mentioned above has a long history of making people fairly happy with their work.

My one and only entry into the 6.8 world is my Ambush Arms (Daniel Defense) that I picked up for pig hunting about a year and a half ago. I zeroed it at 75 yards (my average engagement range) and shot one group with factory Hornady 120 SST. The holes were all touching. About 400 rounds later and my last group on steel at 160 yards was right at MOA with the same ammo. Knock on wood, but my zero and ammo have never changed since the first day.

The upper shoots the same, no matter which lower I use. I may have more than one AR. 🤫
All my lowers have Chip triggers.

I bought a Krieger 6.8 barrel that was fairly light and shots amazing groups . If you dont want to wait 6 months then you could try to find a Proof Research CF barrel. I've had really good luck with them too.

Either a Wilson Combat or ARP barrel will serve you well.
I have one of each in 68spc, the Wilson is a 16" fluted and the ARP is the 20" 1-11.250" twist 5R.
The Wilson has a slight accuracy edge but doesn't respond as well to being pushed hard with reloads.
My go to load in both are with the 120sst or Nosler 100AB and both will deliver 1 MOA or less very consistently.
The ARP barrel seems to be fairly fast but I only have the WC barrel to compare it to and what others post for thier pet loads.
My load in the 20" ARP with AR-COMP and the 120sst runs 2730fps and is devastating on hogs and deer.

As has been recommended- find a way to get an AR15 performance 6.8 barrel. I’ve lost count of how many deer and hogs mine has shot. Great accuracy with any factory ammo I’ve tried. I mostly shoot 120 grain SSTs as well. Performs well out to 500 yards, but I keep my hunting shots inside 250.
