I'm a hunter and really like the ar .308 styles. I've seen some dpms styles and really like them. I would like to buy a dpms .308 that is accurate up to 500 yrds. I like the repr, the recon, and the sass. Which one of these or any other guns should I buy.

Which brand is cheap but still very reliable and accurate. Which barrel should I get. I'm still a beginner in building guns so I need your help.

Well DPMS does have a "Hunter" model for both their LR308 and new Gen II line. Have you looked at those? The new Gen II is supposedly pretty nice out of the box. What is your standard of accuracy out to 500 yards?

None of those........if you are strictly building an AR10 for hunting, build your own with lighter componants, like an 18" barrel with medium to light profile (JP Enterprise makes a very accurate and light weight profile barrel), light handguard (like a Centurion or JP Enterprise), and minimalistic stock.

If you wait a few months, I know of at least one manufacturer that will be coming out with an AR12, which uses a large format lower receiver (DPMS AR10 lower), with a modified, lower profile upper and BCG, that is compatible with everything else AR15 (Stock, handguard, etc.). You can acheive a larger format 7.0lb hunting stick (in .308, .270-284, .260, 6.5 CM, etc.) with this set-up. Likely available the end of Summer.

I had an LR308b that was very accurate. and not too bad to carry to the stand and back. I wouldnt want to drag it around the mountains though.

Get the GII Hunter and be done with it. It makes the previous AR10's obsolete in terms of weight and balance.

I've been a huge AR10 guy for many years, and the GII is what you are looking for.

Beautiful animals Skg_Mre_Lght!

I have a GAP-10 with an 18" barrel and PRS stock, and it is heavy. But I wouldn't hesitate to take it on a mountain journey. I know my limitations and have carried heavy guns for long distances before. Besides, an Eberlestock Hunting Pack is a great piece of kit. :D
