Hunting/range crossover 300wm...mini chassis or bedding

Ran the weights for my build. Its 11lb (optic/empty mag). I'm torn between mini chassis (gen 1 for 300w) from manners or if there is a lighter way (bedding?). Durability is a desire, always a chance of rifle being dropped in the woods.

Manners MCS-T Elite (CF) Shell
Proof 26" CF
Defiance Deviant Hunter
419 brake
Spuhr mount
Kahles 624i

For a crossover rifle, would anyone recommend bedding over a mini chassis? It save about 1/2lb.

Im leaning that way. Iv enever had anything but chassis, just wasnt sure the opinions on long durability with glass bedding.

That being said, I've read some posts that folks will still bed the mini chassis too? Does it help or is it a wasted effort?

A little old but I’m wondering the same thing . Didn’t realize the mini chassis was more than just a bottom metal.

I have a mini chassis EH1 and a bedded EH1, with the bottom metal installed the weight is with in a couple ounces. I would venture a guess, if they had the same LOP and butt pad, they would weight the same. When manners lists the weight if their no chassis it is minus bottom metal. While their mini chassis stock already have it built in.

Forgot to mention, if building a LA, i found you may run into COAL issues with the mini chassis/DBM, that was another deciding factor for going BDL. I dont think that would be an issue in a SA build.

Didnt want to run detachable mags, nor CIP mags. HawkinsWyatts ideal for what I was looking to build. Also, Gen 1 mini chassis only for LA, additional weight.

Whats WyattHawkins? There is no way a CIP mag weights a half pound more than a standard mag, that weighs about 7oz. Your non chassis vs chassis weight savings will be less than you think also. 300wm is not a terribly great caliber for an al purpose gun IMO.

Hawkins BDL and a Wyatts mag box.

Never compared CIP to standard mag box. But empty CIP mag alone is .45lbs, between that and the extra weight of the mini chassis, I'd rather carry a lb of extra food or water on a hunt.

You aren't shaving a pound, looks like you are shaving a little more than what I was thinking at first though. Choosing a lighter caliber will save you weight in ammo. The lighter calibers make better cross over guns too.
