A media separator. I figured that it was more of a luxury (which I suppose, technically, it still is) and that I would still have to clear each cases flash hole one by one so what was the point? I was pulling the cases out one at a time, tapping the media out and then clearing the flash holes and 50 cases took, idk, 20 minutes maybe and that it wouldnt be much shorter with the separator. Well I saw an rcbs separator for sale on amazon and figured what the heck, prime shipping and all that. I wish someone would have told me that most of the flash holes got cleared in the process a long time ago. I could just grab a hand full of the brass and its empty of media and can check 5 cases at one and clearing the holes was so easy for the 3 out of 50 that had them blocked still rather than every single case. Best 40 bucks Ive spent in a long time.

Spife I know you seen me post this.

google image search korean plastic sieve

That would work well too... [IMG2=JSON]{"data-align":"none","data-size":"full","height":"465","width":"577","src":"http:\/\/image.dhgate.com\/0x0\/f2\/albu\/g1\/M01\/B5\/DF\/rBVaGVX4w9mAYhQVAAGBBxx7nyg431.jpg"}[/IMG2]

My lyman tumbler annoyingly enough to me has a sifter lid built into it that I cover in paper towels to keep the dust from escaping during operation that I assume functionally would work just as well. I imagine all that dust though would throw up lead and everything into the air and I like to work indoors from my comfy couch so the sealed up aspect of a dedicated separator appealed to me. Its partly why I put it off so long as well. The lyman seperator is sealed a bit better than the RCBS I ended up with but it didnt have prime shipping at at the time of the sale was a couple bucks more expensive. I still have the pouring into the basket that I mitigate with pouring as low as I can into the basket but all of the rest of the agitation is enclosed and I let it sit for a couple minutes to let the dust settle.

I wonder if I could get a solid lid for the lyman...

you can call lyman to send you a solid lid for that. i think it is $10 or something. it is worth it.

I got one of the Dillon rotary separators for $35 locally. HUGE improvement over picking out the brass by hand.

Now I need a solid lid for the Lyman tumbler... been throwing a rag with a hole in the middle over the top lid to keep the dust down.

I must be really cheap. I bought the harbor freight replacement tumbler bowl for my Lyman tumbler. It has the solid lid, and the ridges inside make it to work Much better than the original smooth bowl. I got tired of the dust as well. Sold the bowl with seive lid and came out even (plus the couple pounds of walnut media in the replacement bowl). One of the few HF products that has worked out well.
Now to get the separator - I didn't think it would be worth it, But you talked me into it!

It is worth it. it does a really great job of seperating the media and knocking it out of the flash holes. i just turn it for about a min to make sure. its a small amount of time to do rather than checking each one.
