I am just starting to get into reloading and have been firing Hornady 168 to build my brass up. I was given about 60 remmington cases that had 180 grain rds in it. Are cases cases when it comes to reloading. I mean if I load 168 SMK BTHP in these cases that were loaded with 180 grain bullets would it be a prob.
Thanks so much for your help in advance.

There is a difference between military and commercial cases in regards to pressure. If you're using military brass you are going to want to reduce the charge by about 10% (IIRC) because the brass is thicker so more pressure is built up vs. commercial cases. Other than that you'll be good to go!

Hey Placebo,

No such thing as a dumb question with respect to reloading - safety first, ego last. The brass doesn't care what weight the bullet is, as long as the caliber is right.

Cheers,

for starting out, and just getting going mixed cases will be ok to use, however when you go to perfecting things and using chrono, worried about sub-moa groups you will want to make sure everything you can control (case, ammo and dimensions/weights) are all the same. Just my opinion and experience!

+1 reloading manuals are good and reading them helps prevent nasties from happening.

Bras will handle both projos with out any problems. I've used a number of different bullet weights in determining which shoots best with no noticable effect on the brass. I find Lapua brass has the greatest longevity then Winchester and last Remington.

Thanks everyone on the help and input. I have been reading Lee Modern Reloading 2nd edition but just never seemed to find the answer to that particular question.

Thanks again
