I got my new Grendel build out for the first time today to check function and zero. Everything is hunky dory except, I ran out of scope adjustment by 1-2 MOA (1-2" high). I am using an IOR 3.5-18 x50 on a 20 MOA base. This scope should have enough travel to zero at 100 yards. Any thoughts except 200 yard zero? Thanks.

You have too much MOA, you need an 18moa or less base (put a little square of aluminum sheet under the front base) and should be ok

Thanks.. I figured as much. Its amazing my TRG zeroed fine at 100 on a 20 MOA base with my NF. I guess 70 MOA of adjustment does not equal 100 MOA
What would be the best (most stable) way to shim the rail? The rings cover 2 rail segments.. should I put a shim on both segments?

If it's an AR, take your 20 MOA mount off, and buy one with no slope. Should still be plenty of room to get to 1000. I was at 700 in 5.4 mils up from zero with my 20" Grendel.

Get the AD-Recon-SW to ensure that the rings are wide enough to fit around the huge turret box of the IOR 3.5-18x50.
That's the scope I use on my Grendel!

Something is up. That scope should have plenty of travel for a 20 MOA slope. The one on my Grendel in a 20 MOA mount has plenty of down travel left.
Did you get an upper with 20 MOA already built in by chance?

Yeah, a couple of things with those scopes:
When new the elevation knob can seem to catch in certain spots which I think is caused by the zero stop screws making little deformations in the knob. After moving the knob over the "rough spot" a few times it'll go away.
Another thing that can happen with these scopes is if your base is crooked such that you need to input a bunch of left windage, available down travel is artificially limited. I think this has to do with the big erector spring being on the left side taking up space for this travel.
Anyway, those are a couple other things to check.

Wow guys. Thanks for all the replies. The first thing I did was check the zero stop and it was all the way down. I am absolutely sure there is nothing left as far as downward travel goes. The upper has no built in slope so only 20 MOA. I removed and remounted the scope and base at the range to make sure nothing was wonky there. I posted this feeling something was not right but still not sure. At this point I will likely take off the the 20 MOA rail and replace... If anyone thinks of anything else let me know. Thanks again!

Also consider setting it at 2.2" high or so at 100yds to make for a 200yd zero. Depends on the ammo that your shooting, but that should be right for 123gr amax factory ammo. I'm sure your reloading, but that's something to consider and then you wouldn't have to change anything if everything is working correctly.
