Rifle Scopes I make an oopsie? Mil recticle MOA adjustment...

Had leupold custom made with mildot recticle, has MOA adjustments on turrets...

Is that bad, should I not have done that?

How do I compensate now if its bad, cannot return custom orders, very expensive, cannot buy another...

Its not bad at all you will just have to do the math to convert Mils to MOA to be able to make the right dope adjustments. The beauty of MOA/MOA or Mil/Mil scopes is that what ever you range with the reticle, and then find your drop you will transfer to the turret with out much math.

1 Mil = 3.44 MOA

I mean I don't understand how its a problem at all... Mildots are used to range find correct? I know that math. And I adjust for bullet drop and windage in inches & MOA...

Why would I need to ever convert mils to MOA? I shoot my target that I ranged out to say, 400 yards... I see its low and left about 4 inches each, so I click it over and up 1 minute each... easy as that...

They seem like 2 separate processes and I don't see how they would ever have to be converted to one another...

I'm assuming thats wrong so please explain it to me

Example, you see your impact is 2 mils low and 1 mil right at 525 yards. Mil/Mil you add 1 mil left and 2 mil up on the turrets and you are now centered. Or you walk 525 down range and measure it or do the mental math and find you need to add 3.43 left and 6.86 moa up. Or you say screw it and hold off...

Mil/Mil is not necessary but it is easier because you have that tape measure already installed in your scope. Same for MOA/MOA.

Is that right?? I can see if the target was at 100 yards those corrections would work, but at 525 yards wouldn't your adjustments need to be 1/5.25 of the full mil value corrections??

A Mil is a Mil no matter if its at 100 yards or 2000

Thousands of us use mildot/MOA turrets quite well. Matter of a little training.

The examples given are often not very probable. This 2mil low and 1 mil right example is not realistic. If you are 2mils low on a 500+ target you have your 250, give or take, yard dope on the rifle.

1mil off on wind means you guessed the wind speed off by 8 to 10mph if the wind is full value. A true shit ton if it is half value.

Once you achieve a better ranging and wind speed guessing skill you will be working a fraction of a Mil, not multiples.

What I have found as a practical yardstick is for multiple mils use multiples of 3.5 and partial Mil uses a 'fat' 3 to divide out.

Unless you are denutting gnats you will hit the target.

I would HIGHLY recommend anyone wishing to use the Mildot reticle for ranging, shot adjustment get in person training from professionals who have been doing for long enough to cut through all the bull and what ifs real practical training to get you up and running quickly.

It really isnt difficult to work with.

As a couple other guys have stated, you haven't made a WRONG decision. If it was wrong they wouldn't make em, right? Mil/MOA just like anything else is something that you can improve with training. Some guys just program the process into their head and it becomes second nature. Repetition. repetition. repetition.

Ok so really the only issue I would have if I was making sight corrections by measuring mils through the recticile instead of estimating inches and converting to minutes.

So Instead of saying "oh hey I missed about 3 inches High", I could measure it at just about 1 mil and adjust roughly 3 minutes at 100 yards? and etc etc out to random ranges?

Correct. As stated a few posts up, figure about 3.4MOA per mil, or 0.34MOA per 0.1 mil. Really not too hard, just takes a bit more math initially to get squared away.
