Lakota legend tells of a white woman showing up in a starving village during a particularly harsh period thousands of years ago and predicting that a white buffalo, not albino, with black eyes, nose and hooves that will appear before a time of great change. In that case, the great herds returning. When she left, she gave them a special pipe and then turned into a white buffalo.
