Today i was over the hill and had two groups of 5 shells loaded up....see i had an idea last night from the guy who used to shoot at that famous warehouse where all the benchrest guys shoot those 0.0x groups at 100 yards and this guy who has shot more 0.0x groups than anyone else said he could tell if the bullet would group with the others by how it """felt"" when using his seating die.... so i have a forster ultra seater and FL die set that came in yesterday and i noticed they are much smoother than the rcbs dies i upgraded from but the ultra seater had tension when the bullet got seated some stiff then lose to stiff again they just didnt feel the same so i had a revelation..i took this ultra high grade car wax if you want the name of it just ask we are not talkin turtle wax here...and waxed the inside of the case neck as well as the bullet itself....polished them up with a cue tip for the shell and my t shirt for the bullets and began to seat them in the forster ultra.......i noticed on the first bullet....smooth like glass even pressure the whole way no hard easy hard just like glass.....so went and shot them today at 500 yards i know its a chip shot but far enough to see effect on group size without having to walk the 2000 yard roundtrip to bing at 1K
first 5 unwaxed same seating depth 20 K off the lands 162 amax 65.0 gr of rl 17 a minute between shots...measured group 5.6 inches

went back and shot the next five that were waxed and seated like glass ....shot those five walked down and measurd ....2.4 inches !! 3 of which were within an inch of each other....WTF ? same seating depth 20k off lands same exact charge weight 65.0 gr rl 17.....needless to say 3 shot groups can be flukes but not 5 shot groups i will be investigating this phenominon tommarro

im in the process of drinkin some budlight and reloading the same two 5 shot batches one waxed and one not im going to try 800 yards tommarrow theyre callin for 40 degrees plenty warm if its 50 percent less in group size at 800 yards id say im going to chrono the loads because the ES and SD must be significantly lower with the inside case neck and bullet waxed....im not neck turning messing with neck tension just straight up full lentgh size and seat with a factory browning a bolt stainless stalker with boss.....if i can shoot 5 inches at 800 ill be sold on this well see soon

yeah i wouldnt have believed this unless i was the one doing it ill let you know barrels got 15 shots through it and still doesnt look bad im using rl 17 is seems to burn cleaner than rl 22 does i would assume this is like moly coating yourbullets but ive shot moly bullets they gum up the barrel and dont improve accuracy like this wax did ill shoot 20 more rounds tommaro just got done loading ten to reproduce the test again in 5 shot groups and ill clean the barrel after tommarows 800 yard session.... and yes i do anneal my cases after 3 firings i anneal then shoot to six and discard this is rem brass by the way not lapua or nosler expensive br 7 rem mag brass...i deburr the flash holes on both sides and ream out primer pockets to flush seat the primers thats all i do special.....neck sizing vs full length resizing if you look there are alot of 1000 br winners full lengthing their loads .....so what if you get 4 less firings its 60 bucks a 100 25 bucks for 100 once fired rem brass....accuracy is key if i could shoot a 8 inch group at 1000 yards once and the brass was junk by all means i would do it....this is not a fancy br set up it has a illuminated mil dot vortex crossfire scope 6x24 power 50 mil lens i picked up for 220 bucks dont get the old one get the 30 mm tube ive had no problem with this scope tracks to 1 percent on a box test of 25 sqaure MOA and back to zero maybe i got lucky n got a good one but i like it got about 800 bucks ready to kill setup i can get 6inches at 750 yards almost any day i take it out im just tweeking what i can rather than shell out 4 grand for a custom that may only shoot 4 inch groups at 750 im tryin to get profiecient at 1000 i got a spot that i can stretch 1300 yards so this summer well be counting the 3 and waiting for the steel to ring back in another 3 seconds

I've seen guys use the mica or graphite neck lube powder for the same reason.
I'm going to have to try this now. Doesn't sound like a fluke to me either.

about 10 years im 30 now bought my first gun around 20.......and yes i dont think this was a fluke either i know when i break the trigger where that shot should be and how perfect the hold was this was off a bipod no bench f class rests or anything and a sandsock.....not to shabby id like to have your nightforce problem and your gun problem vman maybe i could shoot a few screamers with your setup but for now this is what im shooting.....i really think its the shooter as much as the gun stick a guy with a 4000 dollar custom rifle and watch him shoot a 6 inch group at 300 then what a country boi whos a shooter take the stock rifle and shot it into an 1.5 inch group i know better equipment means more accuracy potential but do you have the accuracy to warrant the precison? that said id still like to have that nightforce n that 308 700 P dog...ive been reading alot latly with brian litz thoughts on things reloading something to check into is optimal barrel timing........
for any given barrel lenth there is a specific set of nodes for accuracy based on muzzle velocity a 24 in barrel differs from a 26 and from a 28 or a 30 inch tube thats why your buddy says his shoots great at 2950 fps with his 28 inch tube and it doesnt in your 24 inch tube ive checked this out and predicted my actual nodes to within 20 fps....saves mad time on guessing for that magical load....and there are several nodes i always like to go for the highest i can reach better ballistics as all nodes show almost the same accuracy potential some better than others but thats another debate......if you want the formula ill dig it up and send it to you....

If your new magic wax trick is actually doing anything the chronograph will tell, I would think ES\SD would shrink to nothing, as for 5 and 5 waxed that is nothing more than cold shooter warming up

Maybe that was the key to Norma and Lapua when they started putting moly on the bullets around 2000. It wasn't the moly, it was the wax. They used plain powdered carnauba wax. Most moly shooters have dropped the wax, since it was only used to prevent messiness when handling.

ok, just got back shot 800 yards 10 shots waxed and 10 not.........10 shot group at 800 unwaxed 7.6 inches 10 shot group waxed thats inside the neck casing and bullet 4.1 inches ran with 1.75 inch vertical dispersion chrono string es was 11fps sd was 5.... im sold you dont fluke 10 shot groups...as for the magic wax i want to run one more test round at 1000 yards tommaro then well i like to see everybody shoot good just not better than me......ill let you know tommarro....todays load was 64.5 gr of rl 17 under a 162 amax running at 3140 fps obt for a 24 inch barrel says it should be 3150 i shot 65.0 yesterday and today it was even better with 64.5 and cold shooter syndrome well some take time to warm up im warm when i step up on line first shot should be as good as the last some of the best groups ive ever shot have been cold first round groups so i doubt it was luck and that was 5 shot groups today was 10 so i know something is going right with this beautiful wax..... sorry about the runon im goin out for new years no time for punctuation

Basing standard deviation off of 5 rounds (10 even) is not good enough. You need to run a production line of 100+ to really tell what the heck your carnuba wax, high-zoot, beer induced experiment is really doing.

My theory is that the wax evens out the neck tension much like turning the necks and using a custom sizing die set to .002" neck tension does.

In all seriousness, keeping a constant lubricisity of the inside of the neck is a big part of accuracy. That's why I don't like virgin brass in some brands or calibers.
