I Spy New Baby Razor G3 4-24

This will probably catch on before Stanley and I make any money taking up Rob's scope re-reticling business suggestion.

Sig and other companies have scopes that can overlay holdover points with data fed from rangefinders, digital scopes are a thing but with drawbacks. It's getting closer.

Perhaps I will start a scope company that puts a mark on the bottom of the scope that lines up with a mark on the bottom of the rings so there isn't a scope leveling discussion every week. That seems doable.
Marking the scope would work, although there is a tolerance there too that needs to be observed and measured.

“Never” to me is not in my lifetime and not under current design constraints.

In this case, never means exactly that: never. Not in my lifetime. Not in yours. Not in my kids'. These are not the design constraints that will ever change for conventional optomechanical scopes. A run of the mil consumer will never be able to have a clean enough environment to do that, the metrology tools to get the focus and alignment right and the equipment to purge the scope after opening it up.

I guess a matter of perspective. I had to wear gloves to keep from burning my hands on metal vehicles that were painted tan.

Sorry to edit; my post was interrupted by a call from my son. I was simply going to finish with that I think heat absorption is probably more localized to certain areas...mine being a non factor these days.

Interesting thing about colors is that black will absorb heat faster but also dissipates it faster. This is why, as I am sure you know, radiators are black.

I read an article while back that was saying that even though adding milk to coffee initially cools it a tad, the lighter color change keeps the coffee warmer longer and is a net positive for heat retention. I don’t remember what data they cited but it was interesting nonetheless.

Interesting factoid, thanks for sharing it. That's exactly the effect I want when I add cream to coffee.

I have heard this before but nobody has ever laid out hard numbers — always a hand wave and “It’s too hard” to which I respond “Don’t tell me about the labor pains, show me the baby.”

Economies of scale, inventory management, etc. basic business stuff before we even get to optics specific market forces.

People complained when the numbers where near the main reticle so Vortex changed it and no they are complaining that it’s not near the main reticle. lol I can use either but as you see it’s not easy to make everyone happy.
If we all liked the same thing their we would all look alike. Definitely depends on what matters to someone. I dont like the numbers on the centerline gets in the way and when I hold over im backed out of magnification most of the time so I can see the outsode numbers... No matter what someone gonna cry lol

USO was a Custom Scope manufacturer and still kinda are.. Could pick what turret system, reticle, internal bubble level.. Really regret selling my USO LR 17... It wasnt bright glass but the contrast, clarity and the features were pretty sweet and also had good Illumination which everyone with the exception of vortex seems to suck at..
Yep prices seem to be falling a bit, no idea where Optics Planet is getting the 3-18's but they've had several batches of them over the last year and a couple other vendors have as well. Dvor has the 6-36 for $2350, Sportsmans had the 4.5-27 for around $1750 a couple weeks ago till it sold out. That said Optics will also let you put 15,000 Gen II 3-18s in a cart too so who knows how many (or if they) are in stock, but I'd bet it's not 15,000! That's always a risk with Optics Planet/Dvor you can snag some great deals, but there's always a risk it will never show up, or will take 2 months to ship.

Hard to complain about a 3-18x Gen II for $1000 when places are selling XTR III 3-18s for $1200. If I was a fan of 3-18x I'd have tossed them on about everything I wanted one on by now for that price. As long as you don't mind it's 4lbs and the color I guess :)
Brother ordered 4 cases a 9mm for 180 a case.. waited 2 years for optics planet to fullfill it and eventually tried to refund him... he got his 4 cases of ammo. Ah the days of covid. Thats my optic planet story of the day..

Yup you will always get someone who doesn’t like something. They got enough complaining about the numbers near the main reticle body that they changed it so that’s what it is now. A vast majority like the way it is now. I don’t see it reverting anytime soon.

I wasn't crying. I was just moderately upset. ☹️

The euros have a rail system that is part of the scope tube. You apparently just slap it down on the appropriate adapter and go to work. I’m sure there’s some negs, I just don’t know what they are.

I read that as it’s in the mail and on the way to you now to check out? I hope so since there seem to be some out in the wild.
It is not in the mail (that I know of). I do not have a specific date on when it will be here, but it should not be too long. Either way, regardless of when I receive it, I will not be able to share any of my impressions until they officially announce it.

That's sort of a rule, sometimes written and sometimes unwritten: noone can dictate to me what to say, but I respect the manufacturers embargos on when information can be released.

Electronic ones. I already have that in the Element HYPR-7. Eventually, that (or similar) technology will propagate through the scope world.

With conventional glass etched reticles, there will never be a high quality riflescope that offers a user swappable reticle.

ILya
How do you like that HYPR-7? I've been looking at them.
