I stored my rifle on its side...

I mistakingly put my rifle case on its side when stowing it in the backseat of my truck on the way to the range. I usually only carry it muzzle up. And now it won't hold zero.

Any suggestions?

I did this once and it took a lot of figuring out what the issue was. I won't go into details of all the failed repairs I tried but I will tell you what the cure was. When you use a dry patch as the final after a light oil, you have to use a dryer sheet. Something with static electricity. I don't recommend storing your rifle on its side every time but if you do, it is fixable.

Unscrew one of the lenses and pour in some good synthetic 30w until full, let the bubbles rise to the top before reassembly unless you want to have a spotty field of view.

You could leave it on the opposite side for 1.35 times longer than it laid before but no more. Sometimes I use my ceiling fan as a home centrifuge to speed up the process. Counter clockwise only or the reticle may fall out.


If you don’t believe me I’m head of a special mall QRF team, and have quite a few confirmed bow kills.

I have a question though, what plate carrier should I wear for stalking excersizes in my back yard? I’m a HOG after all.

we have been using rubber mats to separate the guns in the back it also keeps them from scratches and minor dents they are sort of like yoga mats just a little wider and longer these are cheap from walmart

we had to try something as the guns in most cases did not fit very well in the back but the gun outside of the cases did fit this was a happy medium for us . also if you wanted to it could make for ground cover for you it's rubber if it gets dirty who cares 9.59 .

Scope is level when they fill it with nitrogen , when you lay the rifle 90* from level the molecules go from horizontal and realign to vertical. Now when you flip it back the molecular structure will not realign causing refraction error. It looks normal to the eye but you never be able to hit the side of a barn even if your standing in the barn. You need a new scope.

Now he doesn't necessarily need a new scope.. He could punch a hole in the scope to drain out the misaligned nitrogen then seal it with some flex seal and re pressurize with nitrogen in the correct orientation. But if he doesn't have the tools on hand it may be cheaper to just buy a new scope.

OP you can easily fix this with magnets

Put a series of stronger magnets on the side of the barrel opposite of where your point of impact is
If the point of impact is to the left, then put magnets on the right side of the barrel
use more or stronger magnets until you get it to shoot back at the proper 0

But that means some component in your weapon system is a piece of shit. If it fails and loses zero in the back of your truck, what do you expect to happen in the field? When you really need to rely on it for a hunt, competition, survival, and you drop it on a rock.

I would consider this crisis averted. Diagnose the problem and replace that component with extreme prejudice.

Regardless of which carrier I bought I would stuff them with aluminum pie plates. The 8 in are the perfect size but if you need extra protection you can get the bigger ones that you cook turkeys in .
